Long story short....10 yr old female spayed boxer has the smell of death about her...litereally. I watched the old girl go potty and it was mucousy and clear, yes, clear. They are debating putting her down..she is not herself either. Any ideas about the stool? Thnx in advance

could be that she's passing bile which is not good.
what has she been eating lately?

Normally when dogs get ready to "cross the rainbow bridge" They begin to pass foods like they consumed them. The digestive tract doesnot break it down like it should be.

Is she having any pancreus problems. I believe I've heard that when its not working correctly the stools can be mucousy. Does anyone in the family give her alot of greasy foods. bacon grease etc. Things like that can shut down the pancreus. Poor girl, hope things gets better.

No greasy foods. I called the vet, he said to give her pepto and see how she does this weekend and to call him monday...after he sighed long and hard. I think it is going to be her time to cross rainbow bridge. I will keep you posted
and thank you.

I'm so sorry! there is nothing pleasant about having to say goodbye to our beloved pets... let us know what happens, and my prayers are with you.

I would NOT give Pepto Bismal...it contains salicylic acid/aspirin. And can further irritate the tummy...I know, the vet said so, but I would opt for plain yogurt to replace the digestive flora...and the symptoms of the stools sound just like IBD..Irritable Bowel Disease if this dog otherwise has not had worms. Best wishes on a recovery. Plain boiled rice and hamburg help...

Hi Angel, I'm so happy to hear that your dog is doing better! nothing like a good report...Hope all continues to go well. And I agree with Pauline, yogurt is very good for the tummy...as well as many other added benefits...

Sincerely, Susan
