Yea! I have been trying to teach Ranger to love water since he was little, since my old dog HATED it, and I would love to take him swimming with me and things like that. Well, all of the times he has been in water up to now, he has been on a leash and a little hesitant about going in, only then I would go in, and so, of course, Ranger must protect me from the bubbles in the water! (Yes, he did at first bark and growl at the ones in our favorite creek!) Yesterday, I took him over to Snicker's house for a visit, and they had completed the backyard! (They got a pool, so the landscaping, everything!). Well, we let Ranger and Snickers out there to play, and Ranger got in on their tanning platform, and then on all of the steps! He still won't get off the steps, but I will start working on that. He doesn't really like the whole 'swim' thing at the moment, just the wading, although he would follow me into the deeper parts of the creek. (about 4 feet, and this creek has the clearest water, it is amazing!)I am so happy! IP: Logged |

Yay! Go Ranger, go!! Nala doesn't like to swim, but she does like to wade and splash around in creeks. Bonnie jumped right in and swam like a duck.

When we first got Harley we brought her to this dog park by our house that has a huge creek that you can canoe in and went swimming. We were playing catch with her and throwing the ball into the water. Well, the last time she went for it she dove weird or something and the current caught her and flipped her under. Curtis had to grab her and pull her up. Her head was under the water for only like 5 seconds. She was terrified after that. From that day forward, she will only get her paws wet. Poor girl. tuttifrutti, What kind of dog is Ranger? Duke took to the water immediately. He is now a powerful swimmer, especially when he is racing another dog to a float. He'll be leisurely paddling but as soon as he sees competition he lowers his head and stretches out and can actually leave a wake. I have even watched him stick his head under water and blow bubbles. At our swimming hole there are regulars you wouldn't think were swimmers including Rotties and a little Jack Russle named Roxie who can hit the water so fast on the run it seems like she runs on top of the water. My bet is Ranger will be swimming soon and once he "gets it" you will have trouble keeping him out of the water. IP: Logged |

He is a brittany spaniel. Knowing him, once he gets it, like you said dukesdad, I will never get him out. Kinda like with his frisbee, once he understood what he was supposed to do, well now, he could play for hours on end! Jamiya, what kind of dog is Bonnie, or can you tell? IP: Logged |

I'm guessing ACD (Blue Heeler). Here's her page: http://www.petfinder.com/pet.cgi?action=2&pet=2634162 Be sure to click on the link for more pictures. They have a ton of them up! I have trouble getting pictures of her face because she seems to be afraid of the camera. It's odd, because the ones online are close-ups and she is relaxed. Whenever I hold the camera up, she rapidly gets up and walks around a corner. Weird.

She is beautiful! Only I think if I saw that eye in the middle of the night I might freak out...Are you going to adopt her or simply foster? IP: Logged |

We love her blue eye. It is gorgeous! I think I am just going to foster her. But I get to help pick the right family. And I can always change my mind.

Oh Jimiya, let me twist your arm! I am partial because Bonny is so much like Wylie KEEP HER! As for water dogs, Jake was a fish to begin with, when he was a pup and heard the bathtub running he would make a beeline and jump in. We have a pool we cant keep him out of and when we go to the lake he can smell the water when we get close and goes nuts. Wylie at first didnt like the water at all. We went to the lake a lot and she wouldnt go in and then the 2nd year we had her her drive was too much (we ere playing fetch in the water with Jake) and she went in an learned to swim, now at the lake we cant keep her out, but she will have nothing to do with our in ground pool, she doesnt like the drop off, so she has her own little kiddiepool to wade in honeybear IP: Logged |

Don't make it harder than it is!! I can still change my mind, but I'm trying to get into a good mindset here. It was a good day, though. I came home and Nala brought me her "ring" to play fetch/keepaway/tug with. First time since we got Bonnie. Bonnie is a real lovebug, although Nala won't let her cuddle on me. Not that Nala wants to - she doesn't like to do that. But she doesn't want anyone else to do it, either. It's somewhat annoying! Bonnie is also very tolerant. Nala is a pest! She is constantly pestering Bonnie to play. Eventually Bonnie gives in and plays with her. Better her than me! But even though Bonnie is awesome, the thought that keeps me going is that I bet there are a TON of other dogs that would fit in just as perfectly. So whether I keep Bonnie or not, she will have a good home. And if I don't then another dog in a few years will have a good home. In the meantime, Bonnie does MUCH better in a home than a shelter, so I am improving her chances of being adopted. Not to mention that I can help pick her new family.

Oh man, yall should see Smokey. He'll haul butt all through the pasture to the tank, hit it at full speed! The first time I saw him do it. It freeked me out. I just knew he knocked the wind out of himslef and was going to drown! Charllotte on the other hand, SHe thinks its icky and won't go near it. Smokey splashed her from his swimming pool, and she flipped out! Yet she doesn't mind baths? Funny isn't it?? IP: Logged |

Ha ha Samsintetions! And Jamiya, I hope you keep her! I am getting Ranger a plastic wading pool, since he would most likely pop an inflated one! IP: Logged |

There are two ponds at the barn where I keep my horse, Dooley will bust butt to get to one of them everytime. When we go fishing we have to tie him up to keep him out of the water. He does go under water though, I guess I hadn't thought of it...but he will dive down to get rocks and such. Witt loves the water too but he hasn't actually gone out and swam yet, he seems to be making sure he can still touch. Sooner or later he won't be able to stand it when Dooley is way out there and he will follow. A lake that we go to alot for fishing seems to have alot of really tall grass growing under water near the shore, the tips of the blades stick up above the water and Dooley will swim from tuft to tuft eating the tips off, the vet said he thinks Dooley eats grass 90% of the time just because he likes it, I was worried about how often he eats grass, I thought maybe he had alot of upset tummies, but the vet said some dogs just like it. Being a Brittney, I'll bet Ranger will be swimming his hiney off soon. IP: Logged |

Yes, I went swimming at his sisters house this afternoon (it is heated! ). I would've taken Ranger with me, but he had already been with his sister all day, and one of their neighbors dogs was going to be there. Since Ranger and Snickers tear up the yard enought with out a third dog, I thought it best to leave Ranger at home. He would've loved it, I am sure. But there will be a next time! IP: Logged |
