i'm going to take her to the vet tommorrow i didnt take her when we got back from tahoe since she wasnt' potting in the house i figured she must have just been marking her spot in the cabin. But now she will hardley eat and when she play's she throws up she is drinking water like it is going out of style she looks so sad but if i grab a ball she is ready for fun. I went to the store tonight and bought some soda put them in the fridge and put the boxes by the garbage she grabed a box ran in the living room tore the heck out of it then threw up. I know it wasnt because of the box because i found some throw up outside also. So tommorrow i will go spend another fortuine at the vet she is worth it but it's very hard sometimes. Geez i'm going to have to get a second job (i would if i wasnt gone 12 hours a day already)good thing there isn't a debitor prison I would be a lifer lol. well i guess i will find out tommorrow what is wrong with my baby. does anyone know the expected life span of a rottie? Nala is 6 1/2 but has hepitias i'm going to ask the vet tommorrow. I guess her hepitias is flarring up agian which means lots of love, vitiams (sp), prescription drugs 2 kinds and some stuff call SAM E well we will see what happens tommorrow [This message has been edited by Rene (edited 03-12-2004).] IP: Logged |

Hi Renee! Let me see if I've got this straight! You have Nala who is sick, Jasmine who is in heat, Sebastian who is an unaltered male and you work 12 hours a day? Have the men with the little white coats showed up at your house yet? hehehe (just a little humor) I think your plate is too full! Concider getting Sebastian fixed. There's nothing funny about that! I truly hope Nala is going to be o.k. I don't know how old Rotties live to be, but 6 1/2 doesn't sound that old to me. Let us know how Nala is doing. Sincerely, Susan IP: Logged |

Hi susan, well the vet took nala's blood but i wont know till tommorrow but she said she if VERY concerend about her. the whites of her eyes and the inside of her ears are very Yellow. She has lost 10lbs in about a month i'm supposed to feed her a very bland diet (white rice and low fat cottage cheese) but nala wont eat it i have tried like 4 times to give it to her but she wont eat it so i boiled some chicken and put that in with it and she ate that. I'm pretty nervious about tommorrow last time this happened i had to give nala about 15 different pills a day and my mom was able to come and check on her during the day now my mom is ill and cant drive so nala will have to be alone from about 9:30 am to 3pm right now the kids are on spring break (thank god) so they can watch her for me for the next 2 weeks well i will let you know what the vet say's tommorrow

well the vet called me this morning and it's not good news they think nala's liver has stopped working and i dont understand all the medical terminalogy (cant even spell it) but there is to much of something in her blood and it could affect her kidneys as well tommorrow we are going to have ultra sound to see if they have "shut down" or not. i cried all the home today i had to take her back to my vet today to get more blood work and they gave her fluids (she has not eaten for 2 days now) no matter what i gave her she wouldn't eat. The kids gave her some cheese and she was eating that i was tempted to give her all my cheese but that is not good for her either. well today i came home with the intention of telling my vet that i want to put nala to sleep (that is why i cried all the way home) but then i saw her and i have to at least do the ultra sound to see what for sure is wrong. Of course MONEY is an issue but most importantly i need to know if she is in pain. so i decided that i will do the ultra sound and see what happens from there. I really cant afford to let her stay in the hospital for a few days it's about $500.00 per day and i really cant do that. if i have to i will find a way AGAIN last time i spent $7,000 on her and i really cant do that again but i cant let her go either i'm so confussed i hate this feeling IP: Logged |

"Oh Nala" Renee - my prayers are with you, you will know when the time is right - I have been there, suffering, Remember you have given Nala a great life. This is a hard decision and I know you will make the right one. It is probably time she went to doggy heaven but it is a decision only you can make. When I made decision for Sam my cat I had for 15 years, it was the hardest thing for me to let go. He was a diabetic and in the end (for about 4 months) and I was giving him fluids because he was dehydrating. Here I would I hang the bag from my chandilier and insert needle until he had plenty of fluids and in the end it was every few days I was doing this. DH stayed out of it and never told me that I should let him go and neither did the vet. I wish at some point they had because I think in the end I let Sams quality of life suffer. Finally one night I told DH it is time. My prayers are with you and Nala HOneybear IP: Logged |

I'm so sorry!! Have you tried contacting a holistic vet? Sometimes they can do a lot that "regular" vets cannot. While a regular vet prescribes drugs to suppress symptoms and surgeries to cut out the problem, a holistic vet gives supplements to SUPPORT the ailing organs and immune system, helping them to heal the body naturally. You would probably have better luck finding a holistic vet in CA than I have had in KS. If you try, look for a HOLISTIC vet that uses multiple modalities - homeopathy, acupuncture, glandular supplements, nutritional counseling, etc. The book I am reading, "The Nature of Animal Healing" was written by a vet in New York - Marty Goldstein. He talks all the time about consulting with vets throughout the country to help animals that do not live close enough to see him in person. I don't know how this works, but his phone number is on this page: http://www.smithridge.com/ You can use this page to search for a holistic vet in your area: http://ahvma.org/referral/index.html Let us know what happens. We are all praying for you and Nala!

Well we are back!!! Nala is not as bad as my vet said. I took her to an internal medicne specilist today and they did ultra sound and her liver is enlarged, one of her organs (cant remember the name) was very small so he took more blood to check for adakins (sp) or something like that (i hate all those big words) we will have the results from that tommorrow. Now her Liver her Chrionic Hepitias is back and that is the problem she has some fluid in her belly but he didnt have to drain it he said the meds will make it go away. I spent 739.00 to find out it is what she had before Nala is worth it but geez i'm not rich. She has to eat (i know people dont like this but) the L/D sience diet, she is going to take Sam e 3 pills once a day, ursodiol 1 pill twice a day, metronidazole 2 times a day, prednisone 2 times a day, metoclopramide 2 times a day all for 14 days also i have to give her pepcid ac 2 times a day and hopefully she will get better fast. Last time this happend she got better then she was to fat and i had to put her on a diet so i'm going to really watch everything this time. Thank all of you for your support while i was freaking out yesterday Now if i can just get sebastain and jasmine to LEAVE NALA ALONE i would be happier today also thanks for the info Jamiya i have never heard of that kind of vet before Rene IP: Logged |

Well thats good! Not really but better than you initially thought. Give her lots of hugs for us. Perhaps letting her stay in a special room (that the dogs aren't normally allowed) would keep the other twoaway. Good luck. I've learned one thing that might help you. I had to give a dog lots of meds just like that. So i bought a pill crusher ( or you could just use two spoons) and crushed them all up and added it to the wet dog food. They would eat all of it and got their meds too! And if that didn't work I would put in insome chicken or beef broth. IP: Logged |

Renee, I am so happy to hear that it's not as bad as originaly thought, although she's not completely well. I know what you mean about the cost! having pets can ad up! a little like having a child. I hope that she feels better soon and that you also are able to rest easier. Sincerely, Susan IP: Logged |
