any suggestions on how to keep a 6 yr lively choc lab "resting" for 3 months during heartworm treatment? he is used to running freely through the woods and swimming whenever he pleases. i also have kids in and out and i am afraid he will either get out, or get too excited. i can't watch him all the time b/c i work. help IP: Logged |

I know this sounds terrible, but I suggest crating your dog, the risks are too great to mess around and take chances. Stuffed Kongs will be valuable to keep your dogs mind busy. Keep a TV or radio on when you are gone so there is noise to break up the time. teaching quiet tricks, ones that don't require jumping through hoops type stuff will also keep his mind occupied. Great time to work on basic manners. Here is a link to a rescue site, they were just discussing HW treatments, they would be happy to answer questions from you I am sure. They have experience with the treatments and may have some good ideas for getting through it. IP: Logged |
