Excellent choice IMO. I have an Albino Doberman & she is GREAT! One of the best temperaments I've ever seen. Dobes are like any other breed basically...it just depends on how you raise them. I've never had any type of problems with mine. She really is a great dog. She plays well with other dogs. We have 5 Pit Bulls & an Afghan Hound as well as 3 cats, & the Dobe. She's outstanding with my 3 yr. old son, she's good with strangers, she barks when she sees someone strange, but she'd never bite them... Dobes are just excellent dogs. Very high energy alot of times & tend to have a low pain tollerance, but that's nothing too bad. Extremely smart as well. She loves to play & loves attention.

Hi,
Excellent choice for a dog! I had a Dobe many years ago named Max. He was the coolest. We were in the Air Force and stationed in Guam and Max would sit on the back porch and cry when the neighbors chickens would wander into our yard and eat his dog food. Too funny. He also snatched a steak from the grill while it was cooking. Husband scolded him and then fed it to him later, of course.
They are beautiful dogs, and wonderful companions. Good luck on your decision!

I highly recommend visiting the DPCA website before you decide http://www.dpca.org/ There are some great articles and info on the site. Go through it all! Its a great start. Make sure you like and are aware of the characterists known to the Dobie breed. Be careful about choosing breeders, make sure they have health clearances (CERF, OFA, Cardiac, BAER, Thyroid etc), from what I have been told some lines have many health issues.

good luck!
