Hey all. I know I have seen crate mats/beds before that say they keep your dog cool in the summer. Now all I can find are the ones with fluid inside, which probably isn't a good idea with my goat-dog.

Does anyone have or know of a good solution? Once it gets warmer, Nala likes to lie down on cool, hard surfaces - but if I don't have a mat in her crate, the sound of her toes on the pan will keep me awake all night!

I had something last year from PetsMart that had a smooth vinyl backing on the underside, so I just put it upside down. But she ate it (two of 'em!) and they don't make them anymore.

I don't know anything about the other kind but I bought my dog one of the ones you fill with water...problem being after the water sits in the things for a few weeks it STINKS TO HIGH HEAVEN...I think the water goes stagnant. And if you try to empty them out and get them to dry there's nothing to get rid of that smell.

So if you can find a better (less stinky) alternative you might want to. Took me a while to figure out what the smell was then I was able to follow my nose to that bed - had to toss it

I think the solution would be to change the water frequently =D

Umm, I'm struggling to think of anything to help you out here...
How about going along to a carpet wholesale place and asking if they have any off-cuts in the same kind of smooth vinyl like you had before, that they'd give you or sell you for a pittance. That way it won't be too costly if Nala does decide to chew it up again. You never know, she might be over that bit now.
If she does at least it'll buy you some more time to think of an alternative.

You got me thinking. Duke likes the cool tile also and his crate has a plastic bottom. I too have found I can't put anything inside the crate however I am now thinking that perhaps I can put something UNDER the crate that would keep the plastic bottom cool. I'll get back to you if I find a solution.

Nala currently uses a bed in her crate at night - it is one of those orthopedic beds with the lambswool cover thingy. We have to take it out during the day so she doesn't chew on it, but she's fine at night. But I don't think she will want to sleep on it when it gets warm, and I can't stand her toenails on the crate pan!

Maybe she won't need the crate by then....
