Hey guys...just wondering if cooked t-bones are ok to give my dog as a speacil treat. we had them for dinner tonight so i saved the bone in a bag until I new of it was ok to give to Winnie. Will it splinter? It does not seem like it would. Thanks IP: Logged |

No..it's never safe to give a dog cooked bones. They can splinter and cause major havoc. It's not worth the risk of perforation or blockage which can be both expensive and deadly. IP: Logged |

Now you've got me thinking about something, what about the raw diet? don't you give the dogs bones then? thought so, I must be wrong here! will have to look that up.... IP: Logged |

If you want to give your dog a bone that is safe, you can go to a butcher. They will usually give you a sterilized soup bone I think it is?... Anyways, they are pretty safe for your doggie IP: Logged |

Susan, raw bones are okay. Cooked bones can splinter too easily. However, when feeding raw it is recommended that you avoid the weight-bearing bones of ungulates because they are too hard and can chip your dog's teeth. Likewise, I also avoid "soup bones" because these are often the marrow bones as well.

thans Jamiya, I wasn't sure which bone it was. Don't want to giv the wrong info. I know my mom gets bones fron her dog from the butcher, just not sure what kine. IP: Logged |

Some butchers offer smoked bones as well...these can splinter just like cooked bones so I don't feed them either IP: Logged |
