Maybe it's me who is too worried about this, but our mini dachshund is 5 mo. old and we are leaving her for the 1st time with a friend of mine. She has not been around this person before and she has 2 young girls ages 9 and 6 who will adore her. We will be gone for 2 nights. Does anyone have any tips on how to prepare my pup for this event? I am taking her over their house today to meet them and smell their house, but I'm just worried that she will miss us too much because we've totally spoiled her too much. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Marcia

you could give the dog an old shirt of yours to sleep with or play with so it can smell your scent and feel more comforted.

Hi There,
Taking her to your friends for an afternoon to get her used to being with your friend and vice-versa is a good idea. IF you can, drop her off for a few hours and come back for her. This way she learns that you are coming back. IF you have time do this a couple of times before your trip. Most likely the kids will tire her out during her stay. Will be good for all! Good luck

Hi! Isn't something how we get so attached! I would do all of the above, if it were me.

If you're not able to leave her for a couple of hours, perhaps a couple of half hour sessions will do. I also have a mini dachshund named Casey. Love of my life!!!

Hi, I know exactly how you feel. I have a couple of weekends coming up where I'm thinking of cutting them short rather than letting Floob stay out overnight with someone.
I have 3 people offering to have him, telling me he'll be fine and they'd love to have him, but I just don't want to.

My problem is that I don't want his routien spoiling, which is sooo silly as before I got him I was forever saying how I've got to 'make' him be flexible. I'm sure he is, it's just sleeping somewhere for the night is a whole different thing.

Typing this has made me realise how daft I sound and I should just let him go.

I'm sure after a couple of visits and a short time of leaving her with you're friend you'll feel fine about leaving her for the weekend, just go and have a good time... cause she will be

Thank-You everyone for all the great advice. I'm so looking forward to our weekend away, but feel so stressed for my baby. It's good to know others feel the same way. All the advice was great and has helped me out a lot. thanks sooo much.
I'll let you know how it goes when we return.
Regards, Marcia
