Hi there, quick question. My 15 month Amstaff has just gone into her second heat. We are going to get her fixed when she is done. We had an appt. to do it before, but a couple of days before she had an accident and somehow managed to split 3 nails and it cost a pretty penny to fix. Needless to say that was where the spay fud went. Before we knew it she was in heat again. Well, I was just in a meeting and one of the women has a dog and we were talking about our dogs, and somehow the subject of spay came up and I mentioned how my dog was in heat right now. Well, she looked at me as though I was some sort of monster, and said, my goodness, I could NEVER do that to MY dog, how horrible for her. HOw rude! I thought, its not as though I said I beat her, she is my baby for geez sakes! So I guess where i am going with this, for all you breeders and such out there, is, although I am sure just like us women, we dont exactly love it, but does it hurt them. I mean, my dog actually is a bit moodier right now, not in a vicious way, just more protective of the house than normal, but is she in pain? Any insight would be welcomed. IP: Logged |

Hi I am a breeder and i dont think they are in pain but they do get mood swings just like woman no offence to all the women out there My females become very moody, depressed and most of the time they become very very loving and stick to me like glue. But if they are in pain they dont show it. mike IP: Logged |

I agree with Mike. You are no monster. Bitches in heat go though extreme hormonal changes which cause their behavior. IP: Logged |

This woman is obviously some wacko, I'm not saying that to be rude, but what one those crazy animal rights activist. My bitches never seem to be in pain, sure dogs hide it well, but you can always tell (or I can tell my dogs) when they are having discomfort and they can't hide pain all the time. How silly. That is the way the good lord designed it, its natural and yes causes hormonal changes in their body but not pain. It is what allows animals to reproduce, to be able to conceive at that time I just don't see it as being a painful time. My girl just came out of heat yesterday. definately sounds like someone unexperianced with animals. I don't believe they are in pain. They may have some mild cramping like we do. But nothing major. THeir hormonal emablance will make them have mood swings as well. Just like us women. Its not cruel to spay them, it's the best thing for them! IP: Logged |
