So how does that work? You name all the puppies and then their new humans rename them or they are stuck with the names that you picked?

LoonyLuna - lol, "stuck with the names you picked", you make it sound like they're awful names

I like them all, besides Merlin, just doesn't seem to suit a german shephard... just my opinion tho

Aztec's my favourite.

Hi loony i have always named my puppies and its upto the new owners if they decide to rename or keep the name they have.
i find its alot better than calling puppy least then they have a name to answer to as then they know which one i am talking to.

I like Aztec too i dont know why but that name seems to stick in my mind.

Thanks jamiya that would be great.

heh, I didn't mean for it to sound like I thought they were awful names! I was thinking that if they were registered with the names that charmedagain picked, then that would be their "official" name.

I like all of the names! Hey did we get new message icons??!?!? LOL o well.. back to the message at hand! I like Merlin..I had a cat named merlin once.. he was evil though.. LOL.
I think naming them is a good idea because u have a good # of weeks before u can give them to someone, so if u just call them hey u! you might not get the response as u would with seperate names. I also enjoy the whole aspect of picking names for the puppies. Thats one of the fun parts!!!
My favorite female name is Kara and my favorite male name is Kovu.
Aztec is a good name too.. SIGH i like Almost every name that people give to their dogs yet mine are named after food.. Cupcake and Cookie.. LOL

Hey Mike, great names! i also like, Mieshka my friend has a dog by that name, i think it's cute! Hmmm I also like Atticus from the movie: To kill a mocking bird, it's a good strong name. Dave said if we ever own a large breed dog again that's what he would want to call him or her. Anyway! Great names!!!

I actually started the list when trying to name a litter of mice. I have a ton more. Most are in a Word document, and then there's a post-it note on my desk where I jot down names that I like when I hear them.

Despite that whole list, I always have trouble naming new critters!

With the mice, I went mostly with names that related to their color. The ten babies were:
Flint (blue-gray male)
Bandit (gray and white male with eye markings)
Reese (chocolate male)
Noah (okay, just liked this name - male)
Merlin (black and white male)
Jonah (means "dove" - gray male)
Jemma (means "dove" - gray female)
Cricket (chocolate female, named for her jumpiness)
Hershey (chocolate female)
Ripley (blue-gray with white strip on head - just liked this name - female)

The parents were: Ginger (chocolate female) and Bo (black and white male - short for Bovine, referring to the markings of the black and white dairy cows - the third "cow" name bestowed on our mice). Pictures of the family from last summer: http://home.everestkc.net/tnewman/mice.htm

We also have MooMoo, the first of our bovine names, for a black and white female; Bessie, a black female with white stripe on the head who was our second "cow" name; and Fawn, you guessed it - a fawn colored female.

Shadow (gray female) and Desi (fawn female - name is a combination of "desert" and "sandy" - my daughter was 8 at the time) were named by the kids. And little Cocoa, also named by the kids (gray and white, so I have no idea why they named her that), who died a week after we got her as a tiny baby.

More than you ever wanted to know about our mice.

I think the names are great. What is a little freakish thought is that they are some of my favorites names. Not really Zena though, but the rest because they are differnt. Kovu is one of my fav names.
Its normal for the dogs to be stuck with a name, you can always have the call name be whatever you want it to be.

We have to have a segregated household. One of the cats took a huge interest in the mice. We actually had them for a couple months with no problems, but then the one cat became obsessed. After a couple near-fatal accidents, the kids learned to keep the door of their room shut.

Then we had the babies and one of the original mice got sick and had to be quarantined for the rest of her life - so the kids had mice and a short-tailed opossum in their room, the other mice lived in the spare bedroom, and the sick mouse lived in our bedroom - and all the doors have to remain closed.

Nala is gated into the family room, and she won't go into the basement. So the cats have the basement and half the house to themselves, and the mice get the bedrooms...

So when we had Blanco here and he and Nala had to separated, we had FOUR zones - dog in family room, dog in kitchen, cats in basement, mice in bedrooms....we were going insane.

Mike - probably DURING birth would be a bit much, but after the pups are cleaned up, start snapping those pictures! It was tricky with the mice because they will cannibalize their babies if the mom gets upset, but Ginger turned out to be an excellent mommy.
