Hello,

Our dog has developed a habit of pooing during the night in the house.

We let him out before bed every night and have switched he diet to dried food. He is fed at 6.30pm and is asleep by 12pm, waking time is 7.30am.

This hasn't been a particular problem before and his environment has not changed. He is under little stress.

Has anyone got any suggestions as to the reason, or advice??

Cheers
Dave

Hi how long has it been since your changed his food to dry?
Has this problem only started since you changed food?
Dry foods with some dogs can be abit of a problem and you find the dog needs to go to the toilet more often.
If the food is too high in fibre or too rich for his stomach this will cause a problem.

His last feed is at 6.30 and he goes out before you goto bed then he should be ok sounds like he may have an upset stomach some dogs will throw up other dogs just poop.

The only thing I can think of to do is to set your alarm for halfway through the night and take him out again. Gradually set the alarm later and later - maybe a half hour later each night - until you get back to a normal waking time.

Or you can try a different food. Which dry food did you put him on and what was he eating before? Some of the really premium foods result in less frequent elimination, and less volume of it too (and less stinky).
