I have a question that might be silly. Can you get a dog's vision tested? Our 1 yr old, Jersey is what has us concerned. My husband has questioned lately whether she can see well, as she has lots of problems with fetch, catch, anything like that. We originally thought she wasn't overly bright, no big deal, you love your kid whether they get straight A's or not right?! But he's been watching her very closely lately and wonders if she can see the ball, treat, whatever because if it doesn't land right in front of her, she gets very confused, like she lost what she was looking for. If there is something wrong with her vision, is there anything to help her?

maybe its a spatial thing. I hahve ehard of people with something similar, It is not being able to see but how they interpret. Like she Does she have trouble when she is in the house like running into things? I think they can check their eyes

Sometimes when she walks down the hallway, she'll walk right into the wall at a doorway. We also have a half wall in one bathroom and she goes to peek around it, then smacks the side of her head when she turns to leave. Last summer, we were all outside and she was walking around our pool visiting with everyone, and she just kind of fell/walked right into the pool. It's never really been a huge deal, but I've noticed lately that she is banging into more things and I'd like to make her life as easy as possible.Any idea how I can go about finding someone who does vision tests? We live in a small farming community and most vets around here specialize in livestock!

I would call a local vet and ask. If they can't do anything, they should be able to refer you to someone who can. I would definitely get the dog checked, though!

Oh yes, our pool is always covered when we're not in it. We are actually looking at different hard covers specifically for this reason. That way we wouldn't have to worry about her walking on it and tearing it. We constantly check for any weak spots so we know she can't fall in. I'm going to definately take her in to the vet and see if they can refer me to someone who can check her.

There is a dog we considered adopting at an area sanctuary that has this same problem. The only reason that we chose another dog was because it was suggested Hoot be mainly an inside dog for safety reasons. He's had testing done but no explaination as to what the condition is. Here is a link to read his story. There are some similarities. http://www.anmlangls.org/hoot.htm

Yes your dogs eyes can be tested, seek advice from your vet. This site may help get you some info in the mean time.
