This is what happened. I am going to be boarding my dogs in April and I went to one of the kennels to check it out. The owner was nice and showed me around the place. As we were walking passed one of the kennels she pointed out two Great Pyrenees that were in one of the kennels. She said they have been there since Oct. The dogs'owners moved somewhere that they could not keep the dogs. She said that the owners pay the fee every month and don't even visit the dogs! She says there is nothing she can do since the dog owners pay every month and that the dogs probably get more attention at the kennel than they would at home. My husband thinks it is more likely that the kennel lady is making money off the people so she doesn't want to break that. The coat on the GP was matted like noone had bother to groom them. Another thing is that these are huge dogs and they looked so cramped in these kennels! I want to help these dogs but I don't know what I can do. I am going to contact a GP rescue and talk to them about the situation but really I don't know what can be done since the owners don't technically seem to be doing anything wrong. I also don't know if the kennel lady can release the names of the owners or whether she would ask them to release the dogs. It is just heartbreaking the way people treat animals sometimes. I just don't understand people! IP: Logged |

So are the owners planning on taking them back eventually? If not, why don't they at least release them to the H.S. so that they have a chance of adoption? In the Kennel, there's no chance of that That is so horrible-- a dog's worst nightmare, to be put in a kennel and never picked up! I would call the local Humane Society and see if there's anything that can be done- make sure to stress that they are "family" though and should be adopted together. On the kennel subject, other than the two dogs how did you like the kennel? Did they offer playtime for dogs? I am currently, like you, looking at kennels to take Cameron too when we go on vacation in late March and April. I have toured 2 places so far, but I feel like nomatter how "nice" they are I still feel like they're such a not fun place for a dog to be IP: Logged |

The owner said that she didn't know if the people were going to get the dogs eventually. They just pay their bill every month and leave. This is kind of hard cause I don't know if it is my business to butt in or not. I just keep thinking of these poor dogs that noone is sticking up for. As for the kennels, I think I might look elsewhere. The kennels were kind of small to put two medium dogs in. Plus, the situation with the Great Pyrenees made me think there is a chance that the owner might care more about the money than the dog's welfare. IP: Logged |

You might mention the severe matting when you call the H.S. or rescue. If you can show these dogs are being mistreated or neglected, you might have a better chance at getting them out of there, even without the owners' consent. Good luck, and let us know what happens!

GRRRR... my sisters dog is a Great Pyranese and those dogs need more exersize than an I don't know what! Kennels are not for those dogs! As for the matting.....thats a cause in itself for callin in on her, or the owners. I wouldn't board my dogs there if I were you. Personally, I expect my dogs to be treated as royalty, groomed, petted, exersized, fed and worked daily in a "REAL" Boarding Kennel. If I was to board, which I don't for obvious reasons, ( too many dumpees and rescues, that would be too much of a risk). I know this may sound wierd, but there are Old retired couples, and singles that get bored at home and would love to "pet sit". Perhaps you could look around in your comunity and see if there are any potenial candiates for that! IP: Logged |
