I had to put my good friend Rocky, a beagle, to sleep on Nov 8 2003. I took in another beagle, a stray, a month to the day later, Dec 8 2003. I've had the dog ever since. Well, the new beagle just had puppies two days ago, Feb, 20, 2004.

Can you tell me when this new beagle is likely to have conceived? (dog was pregnant when I got her) What I'm trying to find out is if the puppies were conceived after Rocky died. I'd like to think that maybe his spirit may be reincarnated in one of these puppies . . . you never know?

Hi There gestation is between 58-63days if you count back from the day the dog gave birth this will make it the 18th of december that she concieved.

I breed german shepherds and i go from the first day of mating and this gives me the date my girls are due.

I have just worked it out again and if the dog was pregnant before you got her she would have had her puppies long before the 20th of febuary so therefore she got pregnant while with you if you go from say the 8th of dec she would have given birth on the 9th of feb so if she was pregnant before this should wuld have given birth before the 9th of feb.

Well, she was very skittish, and lived in my yard for a month before I could get her inside. The yard is fenced. I never see any dogs running loose around here. I don't see how she could have gotten pregnant with me.

Peoplw who were feeding her when she was stray said there was a big white dog hanging around her. Three of the puppies look like yellow lab type colors, whitish beige colors. I think she got pregnant before I got her. I just don't see how she got pregnat while with me. She's been inside since early Feb.

Thanks for the input everyone.

Dogs can easily breed through a fence, you might be surpised at how adept they can be at breeding.

If she was pregnant before you got her on the 8th dec she would have given birth begining of feb.

Like maisey said its quiet easy for dogs to mate through a fence or gate and all it takes if for the male to get in mate with her and get back out and you would be none the wiser.

An in heat female will try her hardest and usually succeeds in getting out to a male and a male will do anything to get to an in heat female.

But like i said previously for the dog to give birth the 20th of feb she concieved 18th of dec 2003

Like everyone said, they can mate in some akward sercumstances...though a female can mate with one or more males. However many puppies she had, each one can have a diffrent daddy. You claim she was a stray. It is possible your dog, the white dog and others could have all bred her.

I'm curious, if there were more than one male who mated with my stray how would they all be born at the same time? Also, my male is fixed, I wish it was his puppy, he is an awesome looking foxhound, I'd have some really cool puppies.
