I just purchased a new Dyson vacuum cleaner after reading some of the 195 customer reviews on Amazon.com. It received the higest 5 star rating, especially from pet owners. I just had to conduct my own test when it arrived so I throughly vacuumed and area with my Hoover canister then I vacuumed the same area again with the Dyson. It picked up a huge amount of additional fur and dust that amazed me. It was almost disgusting to see how much dirt and fur had remained in the carpet. The other big feature is that it has a power head hand attachment to clean furniture so it really does get the pet fur out of the upholstery. It was expensive though, the model I bought was over $400.00 from an internet discount house but it is worth every penny. They range from $355.00 to $455.00. It is a bagless machine with a washable filter so you don't have to ever but bags or filters again. The model I purchased is the DC07 Full Kit. I recommend you go to Amazon.com and enter Dyson into the search box then read the reviews for yourself. The Dyson web site is: http://www.dyson.com/homepage.asp One additional benefit, the machine is so space age designed that it is fun to watch the swirling dirt and fur fill up the clear canister and I bet the kids will fight to see who gets to use it, believe it! dukesdad, I remember several years ago the Phantom, was popular on all of the infomercials, it was the 1st bagless technology i think. It was the bagless technology wiht the hepa filter. Well I ordered it, and when it came I did what you did, I used my old vacuum, (they said to do this so you can see what your old vac misses) and then I used the phantom, I can say I was wowed, the canister was full and I was feeling the same way as you Yuk - all the old stuff my old vac never picked up and my bag didnt get full for like 3 months, and every week using the phantom the canister was full. These good vacuums are well worth the price, for cutting down on dust and especially if people suffer from allergens like pollen and dander. honeybear IP: Logged |

I love the new Roomba vacuum! I had a Phantom but something happened and it just stopped working.. it would come on but it wouldnt actually come on.. it was making the noise some vaccums make when you put them on the hardwood floor mode.. Anyhoo.. my friend has a Roomba and it is just so cool!! It just goes and goes on its own and it wont fall down stairs, and it turns around when it hits something.. its just sooooo cute! Her pekignese (Butter) chases after it and tries to bite it for a few minutes.. then he's all tired and goes to take a nap. I have an EVO vacuum and its a good lil' vaccum.. No bags just a canister, and it came with so many attatchments I am still looking for stuff to vacuum with the other attatchments! One attatchment we found out was made for pet fur on couches with ridges (like courderoy) and another was made for the fur that gets stuck in the carpet fibers on your floor. Another attatchment was made for using on blinds to suck out the dust!! O look at me rambling on and on about vacuums!! Stephanie IP: Logged |

Dukesdad, That's odd, we just recently had to buy another vacuum ourselves ! I'll look into that Dyson your recommending, but we recently chose a Dirt-Devil. From what you described it looks like it's pretty much the same thing... Yeah, vacuums are cool, when their functioning properly, & the new visuals you talked about, i can't wait to see it in ours too !! IP: Logged |

I was reading some reviews online for the dyson. The major complaints seem to be: -hard to assemble I just wondered if you experienced any of those things? IP: Logged |

fleafly, I had no problem with the assembly and it is no harder to push than my old vacuum. This is my first upright so it does not go underthings without switching to the floor tool however I am very satisfied with the job it does. There are probably machines as good for less money but I like the fact that I will never have to purchase bags or HEPTA filters anymore. I think SEars and Best Buy carry them in store if you want to try one. IP: Logged |
