I'm so nervous about this weekend....my husband and I are going away for the night, and leaving Cameron with a "doggy sitter," we've went and checked the place out, it's a very nice environment-- the lady works out of her home and has a big fenced in yard, plus she has two dogs she owns that are always there. We chose it over a standard kennel because it's "cageless," so we knew Cameron would like it better, especially since she loves playing with other dogs...

I'm still apprehensive about leaving her though - We've only left her overnight on two other occassions, and each time we left her with my parents- but we need to find a reliable sitter in our area so that we don't have to depend on them, but I just don't want her to think we left her- and plus what if something awful happens, like she gets in a fight with a dog (though this has never happened before but what if she reacts due to the stress of not having us there?)Or she hops the fence or something?

I know I am overreacting but she is my baby and I am just nervous-- is this normal? Have the rest of you ever left your dogs with kennels or professional pet sitters? Were they ok when they came home? Any response would be appreciated

I know how you feel. I haven't ever used pet sitters but I have left Samantha at a kennel a few times. Only for a few days though. She was fine but I don't think she peed the whole time she was there. She doesn't like to use the bathroom in strange places.
But yes, I was very nervous. Especially the first time. My mom made fun of me because I kept calling the kennel asking about her, how she was, was she eating, etc.
Anyways, I'm sure she'll be fine.

puggleowner,
To bad you don't live in Houston. There is a kennel here called the Pampered Pet Inn that really lives up to their name. They used to care for my old Lab when he needed a lot of extra care. You have to visit their web site to believe it but their latest "kennel" addition is a victorian cottage with a front yard, bed, TV and it's monitored by a live video camera so you can check on your dog from anywhere. They also offer a swimming pool.Maybe you can find a kennel like this where you live.
Check it out at: http://www.pet-cam.com/
Be sure to look at the Play Cam

dukesdad that place looks awesome! The daycare is only $7 per day? FOr that price I would leave Cameron there everyday while we're at work- she would love it! I wish we had something like that by us,there is something similar in a city about an hour south, and a few in the Detroit/Lansing area, but none around here, which seems strange since Grand Rapids is bigger than Lansing and the city south of us, but what can you do?

Puggleowner,
Maybe someone in your area could see the potential in operating a kennel like Pampered Pets. Think I will post this site tomorrow on the board for others to see. They treated my old man with such tender care. This operation should franchise out. Really a great idea for all of us with furkids.

Hi Puggle, I'm sure your pooch will be fine! I can just imagine how nervouse you are, but your furkid will also get a vacation. I'm sure you already thought of leaving your parents # with the lady just incase, and having her # to check in. It will be o.k.!

Sincerley, Susan

That pampered pet place sounds wonderful! i wish I had the means and space to do something like that myself. It would be wonderful to have a job that you would actualy enjoy doing....
