2 years and hoping she'll "grow out of it"? probably not, as she's more likely "growing into" these behaviors. From what you've said, it sounds like she may be bored. I've seen a lot of labs (they're way too common) who do these things because people buy them and don't realize what a high energy animal they are. They need quite a bit of exercise and fun things to explore or else they will do these destructive behaviors. Going to a park and throwing a ball to it doesnt count as its a relatively mindless game, and doesnt stimulate them enough. Walks in the woods exploring, playing with other dogs, swims in the river are all good things to do with your lab. good luck...

Hi Steph,

After talking to you on line via email, I know you live in the sticks (so to speak) so taking him to obediance classes probably wouldn't work for you. So! how about a dog training vedeo? I have been looking into getting one for my neice and I will continue to research it. I got some good advise about this awhile back and wrote it down on paper. Wonder where that paper is...hmmmm anyway, I'll see what I can dig up! Jamiya had some great advise in another post as well, I'll also see if I can find that. Hang in there!!! Susan

P.S. until then, I'm sure you'll get more help here...

Susan

Definately get a bunch of chew toys. Repremend her for chewing onthing she's not supposed to, and praise her when she's chewing on a toy. This will teach her the good chews from the bad. You can also buy the apple bitter spray for your furniture, trashcans...ect...

Thank u for your help. The apple bitter spray I will have to try.
Bluetrain... I live in the woods, and my other lab grew out of this stage when she was 3. Cookie has toys that she can play with, but the trash still calls her name and so do shoes. I know how high energy labs are I have 2 now and have had several before. She has her own pond and more than 30 acres to run and roam. She just prefers to chew things that are against the rules.
The apple bitter spray seems right up my alley! Thanks u guys!!
