Actually the newspaper isn't the best place to look. Either find a reputable breeder or go to the humane society

I know the newspaper wasnt the best place to look but i wanted a yorkie really bad and there was and ad for one when i called he had sold them all but had a different female that might be pregant i waited a long time to get my baby. then a few months later i got my little girl and that lady was defenitly what you call a back yard breeder she took a piece of binder paper and wrote i sold a yorkie to rene on blah blah date i cant remeber excatly. my little girl was barley 8 weeks old and had no shots yet but once i saw her i had to have her. my boy was 700.00 and my girl was 800.00 and looking at that website i see them for 1300-2500 i could never pay that much for one baby

Hi! I purchased Casey from an ad in the paper, and I love her to death! can't imagine not having her now. But since then i have been educated "so to speak" and would never purchase a dog that way again. Like Rene, it was sloppy! No shots! or papers, even though I know she's purebred because i saw both parents. They told me they were unable to find her papers, and that she had her shots, but no proof! I didn't know enough then to know what to be looking for.

I think the best place to begin your searches is the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America or other like Yorkie Clubs
http://www.ytca.org/mainview.htm

Most clubs have lists of breeders to contact. They are supposed to follow their clubs code of ethics (which you can review on their website) this will assist you as far as what to look for in a breeder. No matter where you find a breeder, never trust they all have the best interest of the breed at hand. You should try to meet or at least contact several breeders and lean towards those who are particularly concerned with health, temperament and type. It would be beneficial to first use a web search and type in "Finding a Responsible Breeder" just to help review what makes a breeder responsible. Ask around, talk to club members and ask for their recommendations.

Best of luck!

I did email all the yorkie clubs i could find on the akc website they even gave phone numbers i left messages no one ever called back and only one person emailed me and said she didnt know where i could find a female yorkie so i went to the paper and found her both my dog are akc registared and i have their pedigree's. and like susan i dont think i would ever buy from the newspaper again I'm much more educated now. When i got sebastain the man was very professional and i met the mother and father of the pup he had contracts and all kinds of information, gave me sample bags of the food he was on had records of shots but he was only 6 weeks old the guy was getting married and he had to sell the pups he needed the money (bad i know). When i bought Jasmine i didnt get to see any other dogs i was not invited in she brought her out side and she had just had a bath and was a little damp and shaved she really didnt look like a yorkie but i thought i could at least save this poor little she was (is) so cute so i wanted to hurry cuz the poor baby was freezing i gave the lady the money my kids took Jasmine to the car to be warm while i got a piece of binder paper and an application to get her akc certificate. as i'm typing this she is on my lap licking my fingers (forgive sp errors please)

but i love them both to death they are my babies and i wouldnt give them up for the world
