Hello. If anyone recalls, Nala had an eye infection a month or two ago. She had a lot of discharge from one eye, and the next day that eye was very red and the discharge was green. It was the weekend, so we took her to the emergency vet. They said it was an infection and gave us antiobiotic drops, which cleared it right up. This morning, her other eye looked red and there was some discharge from it. It was tearing a lot. The discharge looked mostly white, but with a slight greenish tinge to it. I had a meeting at work I couldn't get out of, so my husband took her to the regular vet. The vet said it might be allergies and gave us eyedrops with steroids in them. I know with children, green usually means infection (i.e. if their noses are oozing green stuff, go to the doctor). Does anyone know if eye discharge could be attributable to allergies even if it is greenish? Anyone with allergy-prone dogs ever see this? And the antibiotic drops took care of it last time - why would antibiotics help an allergy? Nala has always been the picture of health and can eat any food and go from one food to the other with no problems or digestive upsets or elimination problems.

Jamiya, I'm like you, I thought color meant infection. So I don't know! Freebie has allergies to soy products, but i never had to deal with the eye issue, just scratching. Hope you get what you need...Susan IP: Logged |

Ack! Sorry, yesterday was another one of those days...continuing on into today. /sigh Nala's eye seems better. When I got home and looked at the drops, they were the same drops we were given before. I guess I didn't realise there was a steroid in them. I talked to the vet and he said he is guessing allergy just because of the way it looks. But he doesn't necessarily think it is food-related (neither do I). He thinks it is going to be an ongoing thing that crops up every now and then. He said to put a drop in whenever it looks bad and it should clear up pretty quickly. If not, or if she seems really sensitive to light, then we are supposed to take her in to have it looked at. I put a drop in 3 times since then and it looks okay now. She did not get one last night or this morning. I swear it's because she likes to stick her head in stuff. Although I have always thought her eyes look sort of reddish. I asked the vet the first time we brought her in after adopting her and they told me I was imagining things (they didn't put it that way, but that was the essence). And she has always pawed at her face and nose fairly frquently. Maybe she is allergic to cats, LOL!

Thanks! That would explain her chasing them. "get away from me cats! you make my eyes itch" Lol, Susan IP: Logged |
