My female dog (1 year 5 months old) in in her 15th day of her heat cycle and my male dog ( 7 months old) has been whinning, barking and not eating for 3 days. What can I do to help him get back to the normal dog he once was?

Thanks for your help,

Going crazy in Texas

Hi! there's not much you can do except keep them seperated. He will not stop, until she is done! Have you thought of getting one of them fixed? (or both) he can inpregnate her, and unless you want a bunch of puppies running around! I would suggest you get him fixed. There's really no need for him to suffer that way, if you have the means to fix him. And I'm pretty sure she can also be fixed even if she is in heat. When it comes time for her to mate, she's going to want to get to him also.

Please concider this! and good luck! Susan

Also concider the extra cost of food, vet bills, birthing (which can be very stressful, and alott of work) and finding good homes for all of them.

Hi there. He will not go back to himself until she is over her cycle you will then have to make sure everywhere she has slept or lay that you disinfectant it as he will still smell her scent and he will urinate in thos places.

The cycle lasts on average of 21days but some dont finish till the 25th day the chances of her still becoming pregnant after this is still abit high as they should be kept seperate for another week after she has finished her heat.

A susan says if your female wants to mate she will find a way to get to him and him to her males and females have been known to become destructive when wanting to mate.

Your male is old enough to be nuetered and your female can still be spayed while she on her heat cycle talk this over with your vet.

The best way to "get him back to normal" is to have one or both of them fixed. Both would be better.
