"Humping" is not necessary sexual. It can be dominance-related, or it can be just a form of play. Is he doing other things that make you think he is "acting like she is in heat"? What sort of things is he doing?

Ray, Funny you should post this because I was saying exactly this to my husband this morning. For two days now our neutered rat terrier has been humping our spayed Jack Russell. I wondered if she could be releasing some scent or hormone that similar or the same as a female in heat. This happens every once in a while. But the same Jack Russell- (female!) - also sometimes humps her toys. Go figure. And males will hump other males, or just about anything, for that matter. Sexual or otherwise, humping is normal for dogs. I wouldn't worry about it unless someone is getting overly-aggressive. IP: Logged |

we had a female dog that wasnt "fixed" and our male dog would go crazy when she was in heat, the male dog is acting the same way with our spayed dog as he did with our unspayed dog, the humping, panting real bad chasing her around like a horny little thing. (LOL) our male dog doesnt do this to other objects, like stuffed animals and things like that, just our unspayed female, so this is why I think he is trying to "hump" our spayed dog. thank you for all your replies IP: Logged |

Hi it has been known for a female that has been spayed that a tiny piece of oviary was not removed and the dogs still released a scent as if she was in heat this can happen in all female animals that this has happened to one of my mums cats has this problem but she wont allow a male cat anywhere near her. Like jamiya says this can also be a dominace thing so i would keep a close eye on him and everytime he mounts her tell him firmly NO. mike IP: Logged |
