My wife and I recently (2 weeks ago) brought our 7 week old Maltese/Shih-Tzu, Maddie, home. She is progressing with regard to house breaking and keeps her chewing to her toys... for the most part.

Our most recent struggle is with her on the leash. We can take her out with her leash and she does her business and we run her around a bit for exercise. But, when it is time to come back inside, she just sits on the sidewalk in front of the house and will only come if you drag her on the leash. Sometimes she even sits facing the other direction.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Place a box of treats or a favorite toy just inside the door of the house...when it's time to go back in turn it into a game, shake the box of treats or squeeck the toy to coax her in. Reward her when she comes into the house. Don't pull her in, coax her in. When you pull they pull back. You want coming back into the house to be fun...better than staying outside.

Thanks for your help! I already have the treats there at the door for when we praise her for eliminating outdoors. In fact, I just tried it and it is getting better!

Thanks!
