Totally sick this is. I have 2 fully grown cats and our 4 month old Mini Dachshund likes to eat their poop. She is constantly on the lookout for new dropppings outside. Does anyone have any hints?

Hi,

I know how you feel I have a pup that seems to like cat poop too. Fortunately I have now cleaned up what I can, and we do not have cats, just cats in the neighbourhood that thankfully don't come near our backyard since Duke arrived.

I was, however, reading some old posts and there is quite a lot about this subject, perhaps you could have a browse through and see if they can offer you some sound advice. There is one I found on Page 8, and its titled "our shih-poo won't stop eating poop".

Hope you get the problem solved.

I got a poo eater too. Want to talk about gross, yesterday I let him out in the front yard and he started eating what I thought were leaves so I went to take them out of his mouth and lo and behold, there was a terd, right there in my hand. Nasty.

As far as what to do about it, I don't know. I'm sure there are other posts on it.

My dog eats cat poo also!!! There is a spot in the front yard where the next door neighbours cat goes and he heads straight for it and gobbles it up really fast before we can get to him!! So cheeky!! At least the cat doesn't go in the backyard.

Don't know how to help with this problem though sorry!

My friends dog eats horse poo!

Natalie has always loved to eat cat poop. To stop her I bought covered boxes and placed one of them facing the wall and the others facing each other with a chair between them so she can't get to them very easily anymore. Maybe you can put the boxes up on something so they will be out of the dogs reach or maybe in a seperate room with a baby gate up so that the cats can still get to it by jumping over the gate but the dog cant? Just a few ideas.

Ranger used to do this too, but after getting in trouble for digging in it, and making sure that we got it clean before he got there, he stopped, thinking that there is nothing there. Of course, our cat buries her poop, and so the only place he could find it was the litterbox. For those of you who it isn't in litter boxes, I don't know what to do!

kyles101: LOL. That is so gross! I used to know when Natalie(when she was a puppy) got into the boxes because she would lick my face afterwards and it was so disgusting...then I had the smell all over my face! Yuck!!

Ugh...I remember going through this. I tried tobasco at first but that just scared the cats away from the litter box. I just waited until she grew out of it =/

Unfortunately some dogs don't grow out of it. My mom's dog, Bou, is 5 or 6 and still enjoys a good cat biscuit as we like to call them. My dog never ate cat biscuits until Bou came to visit. Bou taught Boss to eat cat biscuits and dig holes in the backyard- two very desirable traits.

My solution was to exclude dogs from the room with the litter boxes. This also gives the cats some safe territory. At first I had to block the room off, but he learned he wasn't allowed in and didn't go in. Since we moved the boxes are now in the basement and the dogs aren't allowed down there- they have never even tried to go down. I also have one in the bathroom, I leave the door open, but they aren't allowed in and don't go in.

Here is a good solution that worked for my mom, however only for litter boxes.

She put the litter box in one room (or you could use a closet) and cut a small hole in the door. The cats could go in and out and use their litter box but the dogs couldn't.

This also provides the cats with a safe place when they feel harassed by the dogs. The room is a good size with a couch and a dresser that has their food on it.
