Thanks to all that posted about Duke. Now 3 days after the odd poop, he is 100%, not that he acted any different when it occured. I am checking on his poop regularly to make sure that nothing seems odd, and it seems that whatever occured has gone. I also wormed him, and started soaking his dry food to help with digestion. I have looked at other postings and took some advice about uploaded pictures.....let me know what you think? I hope it works!!!! IP: Logged |

Welcome duke, Congrats on both your new babies! I have never heard of Bull Arab, is that shortened? Can you tell us a bit about the breed? IP: Logged |

Well the breed. The thing is with the Bull Arab here in Austrailia is that they are not yet a registered breed, so people have their own variation of what they call a Bull Arab. I have seen many that look like Duke on my travels, however I have also visited breeders that claim to have Bull Arabs and they look nothing like Duke or my previous Bull Arab Jack. I will give you the info that I have found out from my own research, and apologise to others out there if they think this is incorrect, as WE all think we have the REAL Bull Arab. Used for hunting pigs they are very agile dogs, and EXTREMELY fast runners. They are a Great Dane, Bull Mastiff, Bull Terrier & Saluki mix. So yes he will be very big! In saying that, I find them to be smart, easy to train, and great family dogs, happy to have some action when there is some to be had, but also happy to laze around if thats the order of the day. They are very protective of the family, though not aggressive, more disinterested in others outside their immediate family. I couldn't rave about them more. But as I said that is my opinion and I am sure that there are people out there that would disagree, but I can't imagine us ever owning a different breed. Hope this gives youa better idea as to what the Bull Arab (not shortened) is about. IP: Logged |

I have a hog dog too! Mine is a Catahoula Leopard Cur X. They are the Louisiana state dog and used alot in the Southern states for hog hunting. They are also used for hunting other game, herding on ranches, SAR, and all kinds of other things. They are known as "the worlds most versatile dog" I just got a good look at site for a breeder of Catahoulas in Australia, NICE loooking dogs he has! He says they are very rare in Australia. There are many hog hunters who cross breeds to get what they think is the perfect hog dog. Are you going to hunt with your boy? IP: Logged |

Hi, Thanks for your reply. I just love the look of the Catahoulas, they are such a stunning looking dog, and the coat is just so unique. Do you have some pictures of your dog?? I hadn't seen a silver brindle in the Bull Arab, and I wasn't sure when the place I ordered him from had said he had come in. However on seeing him, I thought his colouring was just beautiful, and again in a dog of that size, and look very unique. We don't plan to use ours for hunting at all, we didn't use our previous Bull Arab for hunting either, and he didn't seem to mind. We were offered money on several occasions for him by piggers, but declined! Do you use your dog for hunting at all? Are you planning on breeding?? We have talked about possibly breeding further down the track, as while there is a difference in what people call a Bull Arab I would be rich if I had a dollar for all the people who have ever asked me for the breeders details when I have been out and about with my Bull Arabs! Witt is a Catahoula X, his mother is a Catahoula we don't know what dad was...but looking at Witt and his itty bitty ears I have to guess Shar-Pei. He is very Catahoula in character and traits and obviously coat and pattern. He has fully webbed feet as well. He is neutered, I am not a breeder and he is not breeding quality anyhow even if I were into breeding crosses. I don't hunt him either, I have a whole list of dog sports and activities I want to do with him, but hunting isn't one of them. He is in Flyball classes right now. I also have a cart for him and plan on teaching him to pull it.
Here he is when he was only 4 months old.
and one of Dooley my 3 year old Aussie X Lab
ok two....Dooley on a flyball run... thats what you get for asking me to post pictures! IP: Logged |

What a lovely looking dog Witt is. I can see similarities in our Duke! I was wondering, what an Aussie is?? It looks like what we have here in Australia, but it's called a Cattle Dog? Sorry I am not really up on all the breeds, but I am certainly interested. IP: Logged |

An "Aussie" is an Australian Shepherd, there are also dogs called Australian Cattle dogs. Dooleys mom was a purebred Australian Shepherd and his dad was purebred Lab, the breeder bred both breeds and had a mishap. She was finding them homes at a horse show I was at and I couldn't resist Dooley. Here is a link to see an aussie: http://www.akc.org/breeds/recbreeds/ausshep.cfm and one to see the cattle dog: http://www.akc.org/breeds/recbreeds/auscat.cfm Dooley has become my husbands dog for the most part, Witt is mine and I am absolutely crazy about him! I think he is cool looking too, but better than that is his personality, he is a real character and likes to make me laugh. IP: Logged |
