Have an 10wk old xbreed rescue puppy. Last few days he's taken to hiding food in his bed, is this normal?

He gets fed 4x daily with biscuits and water available at all times between.

nyone any suggestions why? or how to prevent re occurances?

Sounds like he is playing with it, or "saving it for later." Not sure what to do about it - if he is free fed then you wouldn't think he would be hoarding it. Perhaps someone else can jump in on this one.

What do you mean by "biscuits" that are always available? Most biscuits are meant to be treats and are therefore not very healthy. If you want to leave food out all the time for him (free feed) then I would leave out his regular kibble instead of biscuits.

If he was a rescue puppy there could be a chance that he wasnt fed properly during his 10 weeks of life... so hes hiding the food just "in case" he cant get any later or a bigger dog comes up and takes it... Hes thinkin along the lines of a little kid right now, what do little kids do when htey see alot of candy on the table at halloween take a handful and save some for later.. lol
thats the only thing i can think of...
O yea.. my chocolate lab cookie likes to play with her food when shes not hungry and hide it or bury it or sneak up on it... shes just crazy ... lol..

That's what we suspected, saving some for later, so just a case of waiting for him to know it's always around and stop of his own accord

thanks

Smokey hides his food from Charllotte all the time. When washing the dog bed liners...I find all kinds of stuff!

Welcome umne, welcome to the forum and congrats on your new family member. I don't think you missed any special lingo for the board...I noted you are from UK and I imagine biscuits is what you call dog food.
Darby, my Poodle hides his treats in the crate amongst the blankets and then gaurds them from the big dogs for a while before he walks away. Then one of the big boys goes in and eats them. He thinks he has a secret spot but everyone knows about it, even the cats. I wouldn't worry about it, he may stop doing it after a while or it may just be a quirck with him.

I agree, he may have been brought up withnot as much food so he is saving it for just in case you don't want to feed him. My sisters dog does this too. Mine never do that. Everything gets eaten up. Yep, different countries use different words for things.

They're all crazy, Susan.

Nala has to "bury" her bones, especially Greenies, in the house. Since I have taught her to not "dig" in the carpet, she usually walks into her plastic car crate, and you hear this furious digging sound. Then there is a THUMP as she drops the bone. Then she scoots the "dirt" back over it with her nose.

Naturally, she is not scooting anything with her nose and the bone is in plain sight when she is done - but it makes her happy!

Well, at least for five minutes, until she goes back and picks it up (at least she doesn't "dig it up" first) and finds someplace new to "bury" it.

Blanco, in the short time he was here, was given a Greenie. He became VERY agitated to go outside, so I figured what the heck! There is a good foot of snow out there so I doubted he would actually dig a hole in the yard.

He never went back for it, so the day after he left, Nala came trotting into the house with a Greenie in her mouth. She found it!

My daughter thinks we should go hide treats in the snow. Nala loves to stick her face into snow banks, so she would have a blast.

Anyway, this is a bit off topic so I will shut up now....
