I adopted a dachshund from a humane society here in Alabama. She is the most loving dog we have ever had but she was rescued from a puppy mill and in her 5 years of life has delivered 7 litters of puppies. She is real saggy underneath from just getting finished nursing a litter of pups. Is there anything I can do to get her to dry up, I know she will never be back like she was but will her teats dry and shrink or will they always be hanging down? I guess what I am asking is if there is anything to put on her to help or what? She was finally spayed before I got her so I know she will have a loving and happy life now. Any help will be appriciated. Thanks

Well congratulations for rescuing her from that dreadful life. I am sure her teets will dry up. Being that she just finished nursing it will take some time. Her teets may always be saggy and enlarged but not as much as just after nursing pups. She has been put thru the ringer. Thank you for caring and giving her a loving home. She will take alot of time adjusting, so don't be surprised if it takes months for her to act like a normal housedog.

Hi! first of all, Good for you! and congrats on the new member of the family! My doxie had puppies on Nov. 15th, and her teats are back to normal now. Granted she has only had one litter (and last) but hopefully your's will regain her figure again, if not perfectly, hopefully alot better than she is now. How long ago did she deliver?

Mike, Chime in here!!! and give some advise.
(he's a breeder) have you researched doxie's yet? you will notice that they are very stuborn but loving dogs. Hard to train "but" trainable. Mine is the love of my life! couldn't imagine life without her! Do a research on her, if you haven't already. You'll be amazed how right on it is! (personality wise)

What a wonderful thing you did, by recueing her from a puppy mill! My hats off to you!

If you ever want to discuss doxie's i would love to.

Sincerely, Susan

Congrats, and thank you!! Thats a wonderful thing you did, poor thing. & litters in 5 years!!! Oh I could hurt someone for that!!!!

Any how, there is a lotion you can use thats safe, its called Soft Udder, if there is a TSC around (Tractor Supply CO) you can get it. ITs usually up in the front at the registers in a tube that has the holstine cow print on it. It's mainly used for the Udders on cattle to help them stay soft and pallatable, but people use it as well. It will help to moisturize and aid in the "shrinking" process.

She may never completely "shrink" up since she's been so tramatized. But masaging her tummy, which she won't mind! and keeping them from getting dry and rough will also help. Exersize as well.

GOod luck and good for you to giving her such a wonderful home.
