I am so frustrated. After I thought I was getting him under control with a new food. the brown guck in his lip folds was getting better with daily washing, (antibiotics cleared it up once, but I dont know with my food experimentation that made it come back,) well, like I said it looked like I was getting it under control, it was almost gone in his lips and eyes clear. I had taken to the vet again, before this and he didint want to put him on anibiotics again to just clean it. 2 days ago he took a big turn for the worse, just like that! the ick in his folds is horrible and now its in his eyes. Around his eye, they get brown and start weeping a bit. the vet called it lipfold pyoderma. Not very much on that I can find, I have a vet appt tomorrow and asked to see the original vet that gave him the antibiotics. I really dont think it is lipfold pyoderma because it is in his eyes too. and they say it is pus in the lipfolds I just need to vent IP: Logged |

Honey: For about the last 6 months Sasha, my poo has been getting this brown crusty stuff on the bottom of her mouth and has had tear staining. I had the vet look at it and he said it was some type of infection. It cleared but then ccame back. Vet says it is mild right now and does not need meds. Next time I bring her in I am going to ask again. When it first happened she was getting browing hair follicles around the vulva, brown discolored hair around the anis ans inbetween the toes. Also her skin darkened on her back. When I gave her a bath some of the skin darkness actually came off in the tub. Very odd. She does not have puss on her mouth just brown crusty stuff. I really don't know what to do besides trim the hair and keep it clean. Whew, there I'm fumming with you. What are you feeding him now. We are still on Innova. I just bought a new bag. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Haley has this, I've been using baby wipes to wipe around her lips after she eats, and gently work away the brown, and it's cleared up a lot in the past couple weeks. IP: Logged |

susan, thans for the link -Puttin, The vet says it is an allergy triggering it. He is on antiobiotics again. She told me to watch carefully, when it happens again to see if I can pinpoint what is triggering it. I almost had it cleared up. Jake had real bad browin staining last year,. he is a yellow lab and I was joking by the end of summer he was going to be a choc lab. The vet said that is caused by a yeast reaction because he is in the pool all summer and doesnt dry out. which is also an allergy reaction. Susans web site posted also explained this. I am just at a loss because this just started last year and he is almost 7. honeybear IP: Logged |

Allergies are funny that way. Sometimes they take time to develop (years), or are caused by continued exposure to something that becomes the allergen. Have you tried actually getting him tested for allergies? Is there an allergy specialist there you can take him to?

Jimiya - the vet said $800 for testing, yikes. I did it with my cat 2 years ago and it turns out he is allergic to things they cant test for or treat - manzanita trees which are in full bloom right now. Poor Midas is neezing up a storm. I may have to put him bakc on prednizone. As for Jake, if it continues, I may break down and do the testing. It is strange because it started in the summer, and now it is winter. I started when I had him on innova - so I thought it was something in the food, and he is on duck and potato and there are no similar ingred. The vet wanted to know if I gave him any treats, what not and I m rackng my brain for answers, so I for now I am going to wait and see and watch. he is on a course for 3 weeks of the antiobotics beasue she says this type of infection is stubborn to get rid of Honeybear IP: Logged |
