my dog has a strange & irriated wound on her leg, right above her paw. it looks sort of like a raspberry, it's kinda puffed out a little and red. not quite sure what it is, but she won't stop licking it! should i try to keep her from tending to it, cover it with gauze... are there any topical solutions that would help? Hi: If the area is round, it could be ringworm. I would have the vet check her out just to be on the safe side. Good luck IP: Logged |

Does it look like a wound or a bump? Is it open? Bleeding? oozing? How old is the dog? IP: Logged |

^ what Maisy said. Also, with you saying it looks like a rasberry, it may be a tear and some fatty tissue is escaping. This usualy happens with wounds on fatty parts of the body but if it's a big dog... IP: Logged |

I'm just guessing here because of your rasberry description, the fact that it's not an open thing and it's location...I've got this in my mind because just yesterday I was talking to my vet and he said the same thing my dog has on his ear is often seen on the feet as well, so you know how when you learn something new you tend to apply it everywhere....anyhow it is mostly in dogs under the age of three and is a kind of skin tumor..it's benign and generally resolves itself in 3-4 weeks, they appear suddenly. The one on my dogs ear is red...but not as red as the picture of the one below, it also is sort of flat on the top and has been scraped so it has a scab. Take a look at it and see if it resembles what your pupper has on her foot, it's worth a look anyhow. You have to scroll down a bit to see the photo. http://www.vet.uga.edu/vpp/clerk/woods/ IP: Logged |
