Maisey's comments about the doggles protecting their eyes in the sun made me think of another question. My new guy has a brown nose and the skin above it is very light. Will he need sunscreen of some sort in the sun? And if so, is there special doggie sunscreen?

Our old aussie had that same kind of coloring around her face (she was a red merle) and we never put sunscreen on her. Of course, this was also before they did all of the research on it and stuff, but she was always fine. I don't think it would be a problem. She did go blind as she got old, but I think that merles are prone to that, so I don't think that they are related. IP: Logged |

Eek! I knew if you crossed two merles the pups could (would?) be blind, but I didn't know the merles tended to go blind themselves! Sheesh. I guess we should make sure we don't rely on hand signals.

Yeah, it is best to have hand signals along with the verbal command. Our aussie never went completely blind, she had light cataracts (she could see, but I am sure it was foggy!, and couldn't see in the dark. IP: Logged |
