The vet told me to give the puppy Benadryl to see if that helps with his itching. Well, I went to the store and bought the dye free kind and got home and realized it was liquid-gel capsules. Are these things OK for dogs or should I try to get the tablet kind? I already fed him some so it is not making him sick or anything. I just wonder if it is working. IP: Logged |

I am not sure it would be a problem, hopefully someone else can chime, I would think as long as the dosage is the same and there are no other ingred. you can. be careful because the benedryls I have see in liquid capsule also have a decongentant in it you dont want to give your dog honeybear IP: Logged |

Yeah, I noticed there are like 20 types of Benadryls! It's just Benadryl Allergy. Only one ingredient, an antihistamine. I just bought it b/c it was the dye free kind which I figured would be the best. At the time I wasn't thinking tablet vs. gelcap. IP: Logged |

I would go with the pill form and save the gel caps, or call the vet and ask them if it is okay honeybear IP: Logged |

I only give the liquid, just because I find it easier. I would suggest calling your vet and asking...they should answer you over the phone. You could also go on-line to the drug company's web site and look at the ingredients and amounts next to each other and make sure they are the same. I would just ask the vet though. IP: Logged |

Hi. For the last two years of my dear departed dog's life, we gave her two to three benadryl per day for his inhaled allergies. I bought whatever knock-off was available at the time, and my vet, whom I trust at least as much as I trust my own dr, said it wouldn't hurt him. It never did. She told me Benadryl is just about the most innocuous drug one can use. Jane W [This message has been edited by woodman (edited 02-05-2004).] IP: Logged |
