Hi!

I have just discovered and joined this message board...

I got a new puppy yesterday (female) and have introduced it to my 2 year old male companion. The older dog is quite friendly but his only draw back is he can be scared of other dogs (he is a dobermann x rotti) and he seems to be scared of the new puupy and is backing off and I am feeling really guilty! I think he may be a bit jealous.

This new dog is playing with his toys while he looks on sadly...

Will they eventually get along? Anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks...

Hi and welcome to the board hope you find the help you are looking for.
Best way to help them get along is play with both your older dog and your puppy at the same time this will help them form a bond.
Taking them both for walks together playing in the yard with both of them, even if your sat watching tv and your puppy jumps up on the sofa i know most people wont allow there pets on the furniture but call your older dog up this shows that you dont love him any less.
Even playing with your older dog while the puppy is asleep loving and hugging him will also help reassure him that he still your baby aswell.
hope this helps a little.
please keep us posted on how they get along.

P.S also keep an eye out for any agression towards the puppy.

How old is the puppy and how old is your older dog?
are the spayed/nuetered?

mike.

Hi,
The puppy is 7 weeks old, and the other is 2 years. The older dog has been desexed.
The puppy sleeps all the time so I still have some private time with the older dog. I haven%t even had her home for 24 hours yet so hopefully all goes well. I have also never had a pup before (we got our other dog when he was 7 months old) so it%s all a new experience!!!
I have noticed some quite growls from Bender (the older dog) but I am sure he will not do anything though I am not leaving them alone until I am 100% sure.

I want him to know he is still my baby!!! The pup is so cute- I met her parents yesterday and they were so affectionate- she (Leela) is a doberman. I read in the paper a survey done on people in Victoria, Australia of their most hated/ feared dogs, and the Doberman came 2nd...(pit bulls were first))...well I think Dobermans are number one on my love list!

Time is all it takes really....my poodle was very jealous of my chihuahua for a long time. At this very moment they are passed out on my bed...both snuggled together as they usually are. Make sure to pay extra attention to your older dog..give him extra treats...and put the little dog away in his crate at times and jsut focus on playing with the older dog so that he still feels like hes top dog.

Thanks guys,
It's only been two days with the dogs together, Bender seems to be a tiny bit better (but still jealous as ever).
I'll let you know how they go... Leela is chewing my mouse pad!!
