Hello All, well Abbey went into heat the week she was to be fixed, so I have re-scehduled for next month. Is it normal for a female to do the humping action? I thought this position was reserved for males? She is doing this on stuffed animals, my children, etc... Any info? Thanks! ------------------ IP: Logged |

I've seen many females do this as well. I think its normal. I wouldn't worry. Just try and distract her from doing this. Roll a ball by her and firmly say "NO!" when you catch her in the "act". IP: Logged |

Hi this is normal behaviour of the female when they are in heat. She will usually stop this in the second stage of her heat cycle and she will stand for the male. Since you are having her spayedit is advisable to lock her away untill she is out of heat, She is still at risk of the males when she is in the yard as male dogs will dig under fence's and even jump them some have even ttied mating the female through a fence or gate. If her humping does not stop during her 2nd week of her she is displaying dominance towards the other dog as this has been known. mike. IP: Logged |

Both of my mom's chihuahua's have an obsessive compulsive behavior about humping. They are both females, and unaltered. One is too small go under anesthesia and she wants to "breed" the other. They each have their own stuffed animal (a monkey and a dog) and they know whose is whose. It drives me nuts that they do this, my mother doesn't seem to mind. I told her that when the youngest finally goes into heat, the other female might try to mount her and she was repulsed by this idea. I tried to explain to her that it was natural but she sees it differently. I think it is a good idea to break the habit. But I have no clue as to how to do it, I have never had the problem.
