Update on "Buster" our lab with the stomach problem. Doing great..he's 8 wks & up to 7 pounds. He's gained 2.2 pounds in one week! I need advice on his chewing however..especially when it's the human hand he prefers. What is the best way to handle it? I scream a loud NO & if he continues...we put him in his crate. Is this the best & appropriate way. The furniture & rug is one thing..but he goes for any hand & fingers. BTW we give him plenty of rawhide & toys to chew on. Thanks.

Hello, you could also try redirecting his attention when he chews on you and give him something that is acceptable to chew on. I had the same problem with my lab and i always kept a bone or toy handy and the second she went for my hand i would give her a bone to chew on instead. I have found that it is very helpful to have somekind of bones on hand espcially with a Lab. I always make sure there are some compressed rawhide bones for her otherwise my hands and furniture get chewed! Good luck with your baby and i hope it works out!

Yes, tell her "No!" and then redirect to her to something appropriate to chew. It does get better with time.

This is my favorite article on bite inhibition: http://www.jersey.net/%7Emountaindog/berner1/bitestop.htm
