Here is my situation and am desperate for some answers. My Golden is 6 years old. Love of my life. Beautiful, healthy>Just like the one on this website..with one major exception. I moved into my mom's house for a bit and have been here 3 months now, he won't stop biting, itching, scratching and has lost all his beautiful fur on his hind quarters, tops of his back feet are bare, inside of back legs. I've tried Omega 3 additives, he has had the steriod shots (which I am not fond of for health reasons and only deter his situation for 6 weeks). Now..she has 2 indoor cats. Both about 5 y.o. Healthy last time I visited a year ago, but upon my moving in I noticed the male has lost alllll his fur on his hind legs, looks like someone took a buzzer to him! He is not scratching or biting, he lost all his long fur down to the skin. The other cat, female (sister to the male)has just begun to develope the same symptoms only her's is starting on her sides and rear flanks..a beautiful black short hair with all these bare spots. Niether one scratch, bite or itch. My mothers 12 year old spaniel will NOT stop biting, itching, licking...it drives us mad! Tar shampoo's, flax seed oil...nothing helps...I have a feeling it's something in this house! I am very worried about my Golden..his coat is dull, fur flat, and he looks horrible...any suggestions??? Please. His last vet visit he was fine about 6 months before moving in here. thank you (please email me directly) inflight911@aol.com IP: Logged |

I HIGHLY recommend a vet visit! From what you have said, there is something that your mother's cats and dog have and they have transmitted it to your dog. It almost sounds like mange to me. You need to take your dog and your mother needs to take her animals also. All the animals need to be medicated. Good luck and keep us posted! IP: Logged |

Hi! You need to have your dog allergy tested by a vet. I'ts a little expensive, but worth it. Freebies (my shi tzu) mom was doing the same thing, had pulled out most of her hair on her backside and leg's. She was tested and is alergic to soy. Now they don't buy her anything with soy in it, and she's doing better. Dogs can develope allergies just like humans can. Good luck to you! Susan IP: Logged |

I really don't know here but I agree that you should seek a vets opinion. Whatever it is it is effecting all of them. It could be allergic reaction to somthing in the house, a chemical used on the carpet something like that, mange or some other skin condition. It sounds like a miserable thing for them. I have one cat and one dog who both suffer with allergies and they both pull the hair off their feet and back legs, butt area...I switched them to a raw diet and it has stopped on both. The Poodle still pulls at one front foot, but the vet thinks this is something else. But the fact that so many are having the same symptoms makes me think it may be mange. I have never had to deal with mange so I am not real familiar with it...maybe someone here has and will recognize it. IP: Logged |

FLEAS. Make your dog lay down and search her belly for little black fleas. My old German Shepherd had the same problem. She chewed herself raw most of her life. Drove us crazy. We use bio spot on our dogs and cats and haven't had one flea or tick on any of them and the dogs are outside all day long in the summer. IP: Logged |
