I got my Whole Dog Journal in the mail today! Every year they put out a list of their top choices for Dog foods and I sort of think of it as a Bible. They don't look at all foods of course, but they do a really good job of explaining what to look for and why they chose what they did so it makes looking at other brands easy for the consumer...sort of a guidline.
The food I posted about earlier that I had seen at Petsmart, Blue Buffalo is the first one listed. Chicken Soup For The Dog Lovers Soul is on there and the rest are all new names to me! One is even made literally right down the road from me.

There are web sites for these 'new to me' foods that you can check out, for those of you who are interested in learning about your choices:
http://www.bluebuff.com
http://www.chickensoupforthepetloverssoul.com
http://www.petcurean.com
http://www.frommfamilyfoods.com
http://www.karmaorganic.com
http://www.merrickpetcare.com
http://www.newmansownorganics.com
http://www.castorpolluxpet.com

You can go to the Whole Dog Journals site and check it out, you don't get to see alot of much without a subscription, I will say that I love my subscription and find it well worth renewal. They have articles on many other things .

Jas, have you got yours yet?

p.s. one of my rescue dogs eats Chicken Soup for the Dog Lovers Soul (Senior) and LOVES it. Of course I would prefer her to eat raw, which she did for a couple years, but grew to dislike it. She has had tumors and major surgery a few months ago to remove cancer and in the last year it has been a struggle to get her to eat anything, we've tried many brands! So i'm delighted she likes her "Chicken Soup"

This is a good issue! and may I say...NEENER NEENER JAS! I GOT MINE FIRST!
Kidding..I know, that wasn't nice...=)

It also shows you how to read or interpret a urinalysis in detail and there is an article about how to avoid or handle a dangerous dog thats loose, and a whole thing on Chamomile.
I have only got to look at one of those dog food companies listed so far..I'll have to check out the rest.

OHH one more thing...one of the foods is called Karma put out by Natura, it is the first dry dog food to carry the USDA Organic seal, indicating 95% or more organic ingredients. The only ingredient that is not organic is the vitamin and mineral premix which doesn't exist in an organic form. I thought this was very cool!
The food that is made right down the road from me is 70% organic.

Not sure if you guys are aware or not but you can read your issues of the WDJ right on their website. I just got this months issue last week but was able to read it online before that....I was too impatient to wait for my issue to find out what the new foods were.

I found Karma available at three locations here..looks interesting but very pricey (around $14.00 for a 4 lb. bag) which I guess can be expected since organic ingredients are more costly.
