Witt starts flyball classes tomorrow night and Dooley goes back to practice on Mondays. It's been horrible taking a long break. I still am not holding out much hope for Witt as a flyballer but we are going to try and see what he thinks.
I tried to get into the vets today with Witt, to have his ear checked, but he had an emergency and I only see my vet unless I have my own emergency..and even then I still whine alot. I decided to wait until Friday when I can take them both in, Dooley needs his annual shot in the butt and it would be nice to get them both done in one trip.
Witt scraped the top of the bump off again playing with Dooley..so now it looks worse.

I never really considered Nala for flyball since she is not ball obsessed and has never caught anything in the air in her life. My daughter and I tried to teach her to catch treats in the air, and ended up curled on the floor laughing as all the treats bounced off her head and she just sat there!

Lately, though, she has caught one of her toys in the air when given the opportunity. Perhaps there is hope and we should try again!

For now agility is enough and I want to try her on stock.

I'm glad Witt and Dooley get to have their fun again, and I hope Witt's ear heals soon!

I must admit I half expected that we would end up being asked to leave flyball class, I was worried about Witt trying to play with another dog and it turning into a fight or someone elses dog starting something and Witt finishing it. He was awesome! he minded well, stayed with me and there were only two incidents and neither were his doing or fault. There is a couple who are on our team, they were also at Dooleys first flyball classes with another dog and he was a problem too. Actually it's not really the dog...it's the owners..anyway, tonight they came with a border collie, they always let their dogs all the way to the end of a 6 ft leash, even while standing close quarters in line. This dog pushed past me to jump Witt, Witt and all his glorious vocalization let the dog know just how much of a mistake this was. I had a hold on Witt so he didn't get more than the vocalizing out, but when the same thing happened a second time I finally told them bluntly that they needed to keep the dog on a short lead because if it kept jumping Witt I couldn't gaurantee that at some point he wasn't going to get in a good rip in. My flyball captain jumped in and said something to the effect of it wasn't fair to Witt to have to put up with the other dogs rudeness either and that if it came down to it it would likely be their dog who was injured so it really was in their best interest to keep hold of the dog. The second incident was with the coolest looking dog..she is the size of a standard Poodle and has the hair of a Poodle but she is blue merle from head to toe like Dooley. She has some issues though, she is a bit snappy with the other dogs..she will growl and snap at them. She did this to Witt as they walked her past us and he did the same back. I knew already that if challenged he wouldn't back down, but I was thrilled that he was so interested in the activities. Best of all he did really good when I handed the leash to my captain and walked away, he vocalized but he didn't try to pull away or run. A very good first night. If nothing else he will get more socialization. I don't know if it was the initial vocalizing from Witt or just that the people were dog smart...but everyone else there seemed to be really respectful as far as doggie manners go.

Jimaya, Witt isn't the greatest at catching either..but we are comparing him to Dooley which is sort of unfair I think. I tell Witt "catch" it seems to get him to focus first. Witt likes to play catch but he really doesn't care about balls, in fact all he wants to do is roughhouse with other dogs..namely Dooley. My captain says you can still teach a dog to play flyball, she has a dog who will do it, but refuses to run while doing it, lol he does the whole pattern at a walk and then drops the ball at her feet as if to say "there! Happy?" like he is only humoring her. Her other dog could care less about any toy let alone a ball, but she LOVES food and will run her butt off because she knows at the end she gets food. That dog is Casey the Schipperkie (sp?), you might remember her form our site. She has her FDX or better in flyball and she likes doing it..because it means treats. Witt will probably be like this.

LOL! I can just see the dog walking the whole course. Little stinker!

There is a team that practices not too far from here - maybe a half hour drive. I will look into it sometime, although for now we are going to stick with agility and perhaps stock.

I really wish I could get Smokey or Char to do flyball or something like that....Smokey will only chase his Rawhide bone, bring it back once, and then look at you stupid when you tell him to "fetch" it again.
Char...huh, thats like asking an elephant to walk a tight rope...she does nothing that involves any balls, toys, ect... to embarassing for her...
