Thanks that was very helpful.

Anyway if anyone has any helpful information I would apprieciate it as we want to breed her so that we can have another pug. She is a great dog with an excellent temperment as is my friends we thought this way we could both get what we want, another pug.

I know this isnt much helpful but I do know pugs have alot of health problems to consider with breeding. Alot of problems with their nasal cavities and most need to be delievered by c-section.

If you just want another pug why don't you consider purchasing a pup from a reputable pug breeder? A good friend of mine is a pug Breeder and she's told me the same thing 3Dogs said - the breed is plagued with health problems.

Follow the link to help become informed of what responsible breeding entails
http://www.dog-play.com/ethics.html

Here is a list of Pug Dog Breed Clubs. I highly recommend joining your regional and national clubs. In these clubs you will find many many knowledgeable people who hopefully can give you some mentoring or guidance should you decide to pursue breeding. On the pug club sites find their Code of Ethics as this is the min. all responsible pug owners/breeders should follow.

Please become WELL informed before you consider breeding.

I agree that if the only reason you want to breed your pugs is so that you and your friend can have another dog, you will probably save yourself much time and stress by just buying another pug from a reputable breeder- you could probably even see if one of the parents of your pug are due for another litter soon- that way your new pug could possibly have similar traits to the one you already have.

Pugs are great dogs, but come with a lot of health problems, and their large heads can cause very problematic labor that requires c-section. If you think that would be stressful for you, imagine your poor little pug having to have surgery just to have babies.

Breeding is very complicated. I grew up around my parents breeding our golden just once, and I can tell you it was not easy on them. For example she rejected one of her little pups and so we had to try to feed and care for it, and in the end it died anyway and it was SO SAD - these are just the little things that you don't think about but are all part of the process. I would not do it because I do not know nearly enough about it- like Rio said, it's best to leave it to the experts. I don't think he was trying to be mean, just warning of how hard it can be.

If you are still determined to breed, I would talk to your vet, other breeders, and do LOTS of research before you even consider breeding your pug.

HI. I just wanted to add, breeding 2 well mannered or good tempered dogs dont mean you will get the smae in the pups.

Breeding you need to know the back ground of both the male and females blood line.
You need the bitch checked by a vet, vaginal swabs done and things like that also she will need to have her pelvis checked see if its possible to whelp freely.

The male also needs checking for any infections he may have which can pass to the bitch during mating .

Also breeding puts alot of strain on the bitches body and if there is such problems as breathing problems due to the shape of nose or chest infection pregnancy can make matters worse.

If your wanting to breed just so you and your friend can have another pug then i agree with all the other people that have posted why dont you purchase another dog from a bredder that has done breeding for a long time.

Breeding isnt something that is very straight forward i have been breeding german shepherds for years and the problems that can arise during the pregnany and during whelping its very expensive as in vet bills for checks during and after the pregnancy.

Then there is thehave you got the time to hand feed puppies every 2hours around the clock if the mother abandons her litter can you afford all the vets bills should emergancy treatment be needed e.g Emergancy C-Sction.
