Help!!! I have 2 Mini-Schnauzers that have bathroom issues. My female is not bad, she just can't wait too long, but my male is terrible. He lifts his leg to everything and eliminates in his crate daily. We let them out in the mornings before work and all he wants to do is drink the dew. On a leash he is a little better, but he will not go. We have trained them to go with the command "potty" or "hurry". Yet he will wait till he is back in his crate to go. I will have them outside and in the house all evening long and he will still wait until he is in his bed. We have tried everything we can think of and nothing has worked. And when I say everything, it is pretty much EVERYTHING. Any advice is welcome. Thanks in advance

Sounds to me like he was born and stayed in a crate. This isn't a good situation. Dogs should not want to go potty where they sleep or stay.

WHere did you get your puppy from? Is he neutered?

He could have possibly come from a puppy mill. this is usually a BIG sign.

Yes he is neutered. He cam from a lady my wife met that raises them. She only breeds her dogs every other year. He does stay in a crate all day we work from 7-5, but he has the run of the house once we are home. He is by far one fo the best lap dogs I have ever had.

We have taken him to my uncle who is a vet and had him checked out. He has had nothing wrong with him. My uncle said tho feed him in his crate to see if that helps, but he goes in his bowl when he is done. He knows that it is his bed and he goes there freely and willingly.

That is part of the problem right there. Some puppies/dogs can not hold it for 10 (!!) hours a day!!

Simply put, a dog can not be housetrained if there is no one around to do so.

You say you have tried everything - what do you mean by everything?
Have you tried coming home at lunch to let them out?
Have you tried hiring a dog walker to come in at lunch time?
Have you had a family member or friend come over and let them out mid day?

Have you and your wife you tried rearranging work schedules so that they aren't alone for that many hours a day?

There is also doggie daycare, this will also give them a chance to exercise and play with other dogs during the day. Keeps them occupied.

Maybe your vet Uncle knows someone who can help during the day
