I've said it once and I will say it again, my house has never been so clean since we owned a dog. I have to pick up any possible little thing or else Max will chew it. He's a lab, I know, they are mouthy animals. I just don't know what to do about it anymore. Last night as my company was leaving my house they said what is that? - while pointing at something on the ground. My husband picked it up and it was a frozen sock. Presumably Max had eaten and thrown it up. I honestly have no clue where he got the sock from. He does not have access to or laundry room and I wouldn't DARE leave a sock on the ground or anywhere that he could reach it in my bedroom, since he has done this before. He also is always attacking our shoes which we leave by the fireplace to dry out before putting them in the closet. He has been known to eat my underwear as well! I'm wondering if there is anyway to stop this. I know the obvious solution is to put everything away, which is a good solution. But it is very hard when we have company or visit other peoples houses to make them clean their house too! Does anyone have any suggestions? I would greatly appreciate them.

OH BTW, Max is about 8 months old now and he does have a good amount of toys. Enough to keep him happy while still knowing which toys are his. (I can say go get a toy and he'll go pick up something that belongs to him)

Newlabowner I hear ya, my husband said he would have got a dog a lot sooner if that is what it took to get me to pick things like clothes and shoes off the floor. Jake our lab was the same way. He grew out of it, I dont remember what age, well I am back to leaving stuff all over the place. As for company, I am pretty bad, they know my dogs are my kids and sometimes it is embarrasing when Jake will push them aside to get on the couch. Or when I am in a cooking group and he lays right under their feet in the kitchen. I should put him outside, but I figure why, this is my life. I dont ask them to put their kids away if IO am at their house (I am not children type of person) Kind of like that cute quip Miasey recently posted that went something like if you dont like it,the dont come. Now if they were allergic, then I would do something, probably put them in the bedroom.

Even my Yorkie takes my cloths i will put them in the laundry basket and he takes them out so i bought a hamper he sticks his little foot and nose thru the holes and pulls my cloths thru. I sort my laundry in the hall as soon as i put something in the whites he takes it back in my room. My daugther has a bad habit of leaving cloths behind the bathroom door and she was so embarrassed when we had company and Sebsatain came running out dragging her bra behind him (she is 17) i thought it was very funny i have found our underware in the back yard??? everywhere

LOL..Welcome to the FUR Parent world!!!

I remember I came home from work one day, and Gris was sitting in the living room with "daddy" and he had him dressed in his undies! It was sooo funny! I've got a photo I'll have to post.
Charllotte loves to dress up. She will sit up and beg for us to put her harnesses on or a tee...sooo cute.

Hanky Spanky, the rescue pup, got in the house the otherday, of course as goofy and wild as she is, she ran straight to the laundry room, knocked over the hamper and came out running with a pair of my panties wraped around her neck, and daddy's sock in her mouth!!!

Needless to say, she kept the sock, I had to chase her down for 10 minutes to get my panties back, and wrestle with her (she thought it was a funny game) to get them back!!!

I tell ya, since she's now at our home, our yard collects any and everything she can find. limbs, sticks, paper, ANYTHING!!! She even dug up a sapling tree, and drug it into the yard!!! GRRRRR>....I definately get exersize every evening cleaning the yard!! I drag it away, she brings it back.

hi, i have a Lab too who loves to chew. I always make sure to have very tasty bones around that take a while to chew. Mine is such an aggresive chewer it was hard to find a bone that would last and last but i finally found something, its compressed rawhide bones. They come in all sizes and flavors and keeps my girl busy for days. compressed rawhide is also a lot safer then the normal rawhide bones. I get mine at petco, petsmart, and almost every pet store has them. it should keep him busy when you cant!

Hi! My Shi tzu does the same thing, his favorites are my and my husbands undies. All I do is: take it away, say no in a stern voice, then give him one of his toys. It's never ending! But I just try to not let him get to them....Good luck! Susan

You could teach him "Leave It" but of course this requires you to actually see him trying to steal whatever it is.

Nala is not as bad about stealing things now, but she still has her moments.
