I had a puppy die of Parvo....and I have a pregnant dog....any suggestions on what I should do? I hear so many different stories....my vet doesn't seem to worried, and then there are some vets that say I'm giving the puppies a death sentence. I don't have any one who will take my dog and the puppies. I have been bleaching my house and i did bleach the outside a little. We have snow here so everywhere i saw a paw print i bleached. I'm thinking about gettin a kiddy pool and filling it with dog litter and not letting my pregnant dog out and having the puppies in a closed room....not letting anyone in unless they have their shoes off and have washed thier hands. Please if you have any more suggestions let me know. Thanks!

Hi, providing your bitch is vaccinated i would not worry to much.
The antibodies from the mother will pass on to the pups while she is pregnant and the first 3-4weeks after they are born.

I would advice to let her have her litter somewhere that is literally sterile and only you enter the room.
You can either use a dish of bleach for people to step in before the enter the house or you can see your vet about getting the proper liguid that you add to water which kills literally every disease there is we used it when i worked for the blue cross its how we kept the kennels sterile.

Ps have your vet do a blood test to determine wether your bitch has the virus just to be on the safe side

Sierra(my pregnant dog) was vaccinated in August of 2003, But just to make sure I did take her to the vet the day after my pup died. (which was last week) She tested negative for the virus, so I guess she is ok but I'm scared she is going to track in the virus from coming in and out of the house. I did bleach the back yard though....but I'm still scared that I didn't get it all. Do you think I should keep all the pups until they have had all of thier vaccinations or should I let the new owners take them right at 7 weeks, to get them out of this infected house? I feel like I should move! I can't believe how horrible this virus is!

I would keep all the pups until they vaccinated and checked to make sure they dont have the virus. Some new owners will still take the puppy aslong as they are forwarned about the virus and that the puppies may have contracted it but its a slim chance.

Keeping a close eye on mum and her litter and as soon as you notice anything is wrong with the pups take them straight to the vets.

good luck and please keep us posted.

Well, even though the bitch is vaccinated, the pups can still get it.
I would disenfect a room in your house and leave her in there to have the pups. When you take her out, make sure you wipe her feet with clorox wipes and then rinse them off with water, THat will kill anything that she picks up from out side the room.

Thanks everyone for the advise! I'm definately going to make a room for the puppys and never let them out of it. Then keep those clorox wipes next to the door for my bitch. Thanks again everyone! I'll keep you updated!

Recently I picked up some rescue puppies and they all had parvo .WHat I did is cleaned everything with pure clorox .Plus I keep any other puppies away from any area that I walked in and clean my shoes with clorox each time before I enter where any others are .I have always done this to a degree but in cases when you have had parvo ,you are not safe for a long time ..my vet says 6 or more months .So the main idea is clorox ,clorox and plenty of carefulness on your part .Main thing is keeping people away that have been to other kennels and if possible put a sidewalk ,concrete ,to your meter base and other areas that people walk on and keep that cloroxed also .Hope this helped some .
