Does anyone know a safe way to ship an animal (a cat, specifically) by air? A friend may be moving and if he can't drive, I don't know how he will take his cat.

Have him call the airlines. They have a whole set of rules and instructions on how to do it. Depends on the flight, temperature, etc, etc. IP: Logged |

If he is flying he can bring the cat in the cabin with him. Although the only allow a certain number of animals per flight so he needs to make sure ahead of time that he can bring his cat. I don't suggest putting it under as cargo unless he really has to. Usually things go okay, but I have heard some real horror stories. IP: Logged |

That would be awesome if he could bring it in the cabin! I will check into it. Isn't there some sort of pet airline? I seem to recall Samsintentions sending one of her puppies by air (the one who got parvo).

There is an airline called companion air, but it is really expensive. It would probably be cheaper to take a charter flight. Since you are renting the flight they let you bring pets on also. Each airline is different, but it is usually around 150 to bring an animal, even if they are in the cabin. Cats have to be in a carrier that will fit under the seat- they make special ones that are shorter and wider than most. IP: Logged |
