Hey guys, I have posted before about my 15 month old lab who eats everything! Well she never misses a meal and is always willing to eat. During the past couple days her behavior has really changed and i dont know if maybe her personality is changing or if she is sick. I feed her twice a day, and lately she has not been wanting to eat. The first day she did not eat breakfest but she ate dinner. the next day she didnt eat breakfest right away but when i put the food back down an hour or so later she ate, but then she did not eat dinner! She also use to eat her Greenies really fast and they would be gone in seconds and yesterday i gave her one and she didnt even try and eat it at first, she finally did a while later. Other then being finiky (sorry about spelling)with her food, she is acting totally normal, chewing on bones and is very excited to go out on our walks. Should i be worried about her change in eating behavior? Im just worried because i used to have the problem of her eating too much and now she is not eating enough! Any help would be appriciated!thanks

Also i switched her food about a month or two ago from Eukanuba to Canidae. She took to it really well and seemd to really like the new food. Also i started giving her a little wet food at dinner time with her dry food. So she really loves eating dinner, thats why i was so worried lastnight when she didnt even eat dinner!thanks agian

It could be that your dog is just getting older and not requiring as much food as she did when she was growing faster. It's good that she is acting normally otherwise.

I think if it were me, I would call a vet and ask their opinion. Maybe even call more than one and compare answers.

Let us know what happens!

How is her fluid intake? Is she drinking enough water? Sounds like she's maturing and her eating habbits are changing. Do you free feed? Just to be on the safe side and to make you feel better i would call the vet.

Hi, Is she spayed if not as she had her first heat most bitches when there cycle is due they someyimes go off food for a couple of days or become picky with food.

I would also have her checked by a vet but it also does sound like she is maturing she is still a puppy until she is between 18-24months then she becomes an adult dog Most people assume once a dog is a year old then its an adult but this is not true.

Try feeding her small amounts a few times a day till she picks up her eating routine again this usually works with my dogs.

i used to free feed her but then i got kittens and could not leave food around all day. She always ate all her food for breakfest and dinner, usually very quickly too. Now I am feeding her only once a day at night, and she only eats about half of it. She is still acting normal but she is only eating 1/4 the amount of food now!

I would suggest feeding her at leaste twice a day. Could she have eaten something she wasn't supposed to? Is she having normal bowel movements and urinating normally? Is she drinking enoug? Throwing up? Lethargic or normal energy?

she is acting completly normal except for not eating. I thought maybe she was depressed, so i started taking her to the dog park agian, which she loves. She runs around and plays for hours with her best friend there. I thought after a good run and exercise like that, that she would definitly start eating more but still not eating. she eats about 1/4 of the amount she use to, and lastnight didnt eat at all! its confusing cause she isnt acting sick or anything.

Nala hasn't been eating well this past week, either. If I leave the food out, she will eventually wander by and eat some of it. She's only 8 months old. She has gone through phases like this before, but just a couple of weeks ago I increased the amount I was feeding her because she always seemed so hungry. I have now cut back again.

I wonder if it's like a human child. I could always tell when my kids were in a growth spurt because they would suddenly start eating about twice as much as usual. It would last for a few days to a week and then they'd go back to their former eating habits.

Perhaps your dog is just past the puppy stage and she doesn't need as much food anymore. I can see why you are concerned, though. I would call your vet and see if they suggest checking the dog.

Wonderful! I really do think they just tend to go in spurts. It's probably a good sign that she doesn't eat when she doesn't need it, rather than gobbling everything down and getting fat!

Nala has ben eating again, but that's because I switched her to raw food and she is gleefully happy about it.
