This is how my husband has kept warm through this snow storm we have had. Note that while the dogs...all three of them are comfy on the recliner with Shawn, the $80 dog bed I bought them is occupied by my daughter on the floor(under the pastel blanket)!

I haven't weighed Witt in a couple months, but he was 65 lbs the last time I did, Dooley weighs 45.5 lbs, Darby is 9 lbs and Shawn is about 180...how long do you think that recliner is going to last?

Those pics are just wonderful
This might sound like a really dumb question... but have you always let your dogs sit on the furniture with you from pups? I REALLY want Floob to snuggle up on the sofa with me but everyone has told me he'd feel like he was on an even keel then and I should keep him off... but I'm not sure if they mean just whilst he's still learning or forever.

Nik, a lot of people say you should not let dogs on furniture or in bed with you, because then you will lose your position as alpha.

I don't believe that. As long as you teach them to get off when you tell them to, and you don't EVER let them guard the couch like it is theirs, they are fine on the couch.

That being said, we don't allow Nala on the couch or in bed because my husband is religiously opposed to dogs on furniture.

So sorry Nik I didn't see your question.

Yes I have always let them on the furniture and my bed. I enjoy snuggling with them. I do not believe that it's wrong or the way one loses alpha position. There are many ways to establish your top rank in your house. Any one of my animals will get off when I tell them to. Witt is a very alpha dog, and yet I have no problem telling him off and having him do it immediately. I truely believe that you can establish alpha position in many many ways, that doesn't mean every dog is the same..for some dogs it may bring up problems.
My dogs do not go for the food bowl until I say "ok", they do not get into or out of a vehicle or doorway unless I have said "ok", when I say "enough" while they are playing, they quit. If one is laying in the middle of my walking path, I do not step over them...I ask them to move. Simple little things that may not seem like much to you, speak volumes to your dog.

puttin, I will get some pictures of Darby soon...right now he is a mess and I don't want to bathe him or cut his hair until this cold snap passes, the poor little man would freeze and resemble a snow dog.

I don't know what you call the hair cut I give him, but I hand scissor his whole body because he is so scared of being put on a table. I have only recently been able to do a little body work with clippers. I think he may have been abused on a table as a puppy, my mother who used to groom says he acts like he was hung on a table. Anyhow I just hold him in my lap and do it. We take lots of breaks and just stay relaxed about it.
I keep his body and feet all the same length (short) and since his tail was never docked I leave a little spray of hair on that, plus his top knot. I recently had to cut all the hair off his ears, first time in 10 years I have ever seen him without long ears. They are so little, lol. He went to the barn with me and played in the pasture, he got burrs all over in they, down to the skin. It was too painful to try and pull them so I just cut the hair down close to the skin. The grooming shop where I buy my dog food...Renee, said I did a good job especially considering that I did it all with scissor work. Darby is happier this way so i don't mind.
