I think I am crazy, there is a 12 year old female rottie that was dropped off at the shelter because there owners moved. ARRGH how sad They say she is a sweetheart. She is now in a foster home She gets along with the other dogs and cats. But I know nothing about this breed. I have a 6/12 year old male yellow lab and a mix 6 year old female. They like other dogs, but they dont like dogs that interfere with their play time. They dont get mean, they just kind of pout. (I am sure my husbband is going to say no because of Jakes health problems, and getting a 12 year old dog is crazy because of the $$
Any advice

So you are considering rescueing this pup?
An old dog usualy does mean a little more money, but there may not be anything wrong with this dog.
I have a Rottie x, they are bigger boned so you must watch there wieght because of the stress it will put on there joints.
Rotties are a great breed, you just need to find out as much about this dog as possible.
old dogs like to play as much as the next dog but their just a bit slower, lol, or she may want to keep out of playtime and chew a bone.

Hi Honeybear,
that is so sad how can someone keep a dog for that long then just give them up?? i have a 6 year old rottie and she is a great dog. for 5 years she was my only dog but i had 4 cats then last year i decided to get 2 yorkies i was a little nervious at first but she did great with them her and my male play all the time she gets a little ruf sometimes but he puts her in her place. I was unlucky in the fact that when she was 4 mos. old she got Parvo and had to stay in the hosiptal for over a week but she survied then when she was about 4 years old she got hepitias (sp) which at that time i didnt even know dogs could get i have to give her 5 different pills everyday. So she is my Millon dollar dog but she is worth it. An older rottie may have hip problems i think nala is starting to get that now also but she is worth all the vet bills she is a great dog

The foster parent said she is on glucosomine but is very healthy, she said the dog has no gray hair and couldnt believe she was 12, she was able to get the vets records that showed indeed she was 12. This is actually a good thing I could lookover her health history. The woman said she is on the small side for a rottie. She is also a trainer said she has trained many rots. She is about 2 hours away and I wouldnt be able to checkher out until ext week-end so we will see

I am the proud mother of a 7 month old rottie, he lives with two small kids, and two cats, one of which hates him with every hair on her body. He is gentle around my mothers chihuahuas, and curious about new dogs. If she seems to be doing fine in er foster home and is around other dogs with no problem, she should do okay. Rottweilers are not an agressive breed, they are lovable attention hogs. I adopted a male rott from the pound a couple of years ago, he was due to be put down. He was heartworm positive and no one wanted him. I took him home and gave him a comfortale place to live. We went in for the treatment but it was too late. He lived for about a year. He was laid back and easy-going. He got along well with other animals and enjoyed meeting new people.
