Ok correct me if i am wrong, but i was reading in a magazine that dogs only sweat through their feet because its the only bit of 'skin' they have on their bodies and that they only sweat when they pant......How true is this??? Jody IP: Logged |

I thought the only place they could sweat was their tongue, but may be through their feet as well. IP: Logged |

Just found this info on healthypet.com "Dogs have the ability to sweat, but in places that are a little different from humans. Dogs sweat through their pads and feet. Their skin and armpit areas don't contain sweat glands like ours do. Their main method of ridding themselves from heat, however, is by panting, which is a very different mechanism than what we generally use. For these reasons, we must take great care to protect our dogs from heat stroke. Dogs with compromised respiration, like bulldogs and pugs, are at a very high risk of easily overheating just because they can't pant very efficiently" IP: Logged |

I didn't know that dogs sweat, I was told that that was why they pant when they are hot. Ashley IP: Logged |

That IS why they pant. The amount they sweat from their feet is probably pretty insignificant when it comes to cooling their bodies.

Also by keeping there feet wet will keep them cool. I always wondered why Jasper was putting her feet in her water bucket..... Jody IP: Logged |
