Any explanation as to why some dogs, like Duke, have eyes that reflect light in a bluish-green color while others, like Freckles, reflect red, like humans. When Freckles runs around in the yard at night with his flashing red ball and then looks back into the glare of the yard light it's downright eerie to see two red eyes and a flashing red mouth.
Just wondering why Duke's eyes are different.

Especially when there is a different color in dogs of the same breed. Three of my six dogs are GSDs. Two have yellow redness, one has blue. The Doberman/GSD mix also has blue. My two little Dachsies have got it red.... Go figure. I can say one thing though.... it gets to be very interesting at night with so many colorful little lighties....

I asked the Vet about this and he said dogs have different retinal coloration as ooposed to just red like humans. This is normal and does not indicate anything different about their vision.
