Oscar is so cute!, question about mastiffs, I thought mastifs wer so suppose to be like tanks, but I recently read that they ae suppose to be no bigger than like 100 # and not real tall. are there different types of b\mastiffs? Honebyear IP: Logged |

thanks...umm Oscar will definitely be a tank, he's 11 weeks right now and is pretty big for a puppy...Mastiffs aren't tall, but they are big dogs, very big dogs, and its all muscle...and he should weigh anywhere between 120-160lbs, it varies. Yes there are several kinds of Mastiffs, Theres The Bullmastiff(Oscar), The English Mastiff(the nose is more out), French Mastiff(aka Dogue De Bordeux), the Spanish Mastiff(they weigh over 200lbs but i heard they are vicious)..the time we were getting Oscar, there was the option of also getting the Dogue De Bordeux which according to the guy we purchased Oscar from, the only differences is that ths nose is not black, but like the color of their coat, they have HUGE HEADS(the biggest of all dogs), and they live a little longer, they are very rare..but the only problem is that the Dogue De Bordeux was $2600 and they had to ship him from Paris To Brooklyn, so we didnt like the idea that much as well as the price..however Oscar still was an expensive dog...I've heard of some mix of a pitbull/mastiff which im interested to see what they look like, but its probably very rare, i only found out through the internet about it, and if that mix isn't taken care of properly, chances are it can be very dangerous, because it would have the physique of a mastiff and the attitude of a pitbull, basically an unstoppable dog also one more thing the bullmastiff is known as a "Gentle Giant" that rarely bark IP: Logged |

I love your dog! Mastiffs are so cool. I hear they are big loveable lugs. I am too chicken though to own and train something that big. Good luck with him! IP: Logged |

Hi! Nice looking pup! I would be too afraid to have one myself. I've heard they can be hard to handle. Is that true? I know nothing about the breed.....Susan IP: Logged |

thanks for the compliments....i've had this dog for 3 weeks so far, and he's adorable, I WOULD RECOMMEND ALMOST ANYONE to have a bullmastiff...these dogs are gentle, they rarely bark, they are protective of the family, they don't like strangers but if they see the family gets along with the stranger, he would be fine, they need exercise daily, and don't let their laziness fool you, they aren't hard to handle if you're dedicated to the dog IP: Logged |

mastiff, thanks forthe input, A few years ago, Regis had a large dog contest and both the winner and runner up were mastiffs, Ithink they were like 250# but the poor things were overweight. Good luck you your new cutie Honeybear IP: Logged |
