There was a recent post about how often people deworm their dogs, which is quite frequent. I have never dewormed my dogs, My husband mentioned they dont need it because they are are on heartguard, which kills roundworms and hookworms. Question: Are there are types of worms out there and my dogs should be de-wormed that is not cocerwed by heartguard? I wouldthink if this was the case, my vet would bebugging me to deworm my dogs IP: Logged |

Round worms, and pin worms, tape worms and another one that starts with a "C" I can't think of it off the top of my head. IP: Logged |

My vet told us that Heartguard plus covers all "popular" kinds of worms that are most likely to be contracted by dogs, except for whipworm, which I learned the hard way. Cameron got whipworm and it took us forever to figure out it was worms because we thought her heartworm meds covered all the basic kinds. There are, however, some brands of heartworm meds that do cover the whipworm as well- I would check around for the brand that covers the most different kinds of worms. IP: Logged |
