I took my dog to the vet Friday for a couple of reasons. One of the reasons is that she sometimes spit up clear, slimy liquid that had black specks in it. Turns out, the black stuff is blood and it is a symptom of ulcers. The vet told me to give her Tagament (or Pepcid AC).
Anyways, I was just wondering if anyone else had this problem with their dog and if there is anything else I can do for her. It didn't really sink in until I left the vet's office. I guess the medicine will heal the ulcers he said? Do you know of anything I can do to keep her from getting them?
Also, for the medicine, the doses seem to be high to me. 3 Tagament tablets a day or 20 Pepcid AC tablets a day? Those are both a lot higher than the people dosages. On the Tagament box it said not to take more than 2 a day. Why do dogs get so much more than people? She is just a little over 100 lbs? Well, it just kind of concerned me.

Oh, and for an update on her diarrhea with food change thing, she has been on the chicken and rice for a few days and I am slowly adding in a new type of food (chicken soup for the dog lover's soul). The vet said she probably just didn't agree with something in the Eaglepack and the man at the pet store said that this new food is real good and has less stuff so it shouldn't make her stomach so upset.

I wish I had an answer about the tagament stuff. But the chicken soup for the soul food looks good to me too. Have you looked up dog ulcers online yet? Maybe you could find out more that way.
