What's up Ozzy, Hey i have an AB too! He's my 1st, Bully/Johnson type. Awesome breed !! I posted something to another person from England. I was just wondering, do they call the AB something else in England?? Also, tell me that the "original" Bulldog still exists over there!?! Do they? Because you know what, my AB looks really close to Rosa & Crib. I've read on some bulldoggers websites that they actually have some in the south of u.s.a.. I believe they do too, but i was just hoping that someone from England could give their scoop since this is where "Bulldogs" started and all. If anything, i think the AmBull is the closest representation today of the OG-Bulldog. Gotta love them Bulldogs!! Welcome... . Post some pictures if you can. I'll tell you how, if you don't know. Hi everyone, first of all thank you for your posts! I live in Staffordshire. The original Bulldog is the American Bulldog. Over here they are called American Bulldogs, but alot of people think that they are either really big Staffys or Pitbulls! I love American bulldogs, we have had Rotties, an English Mastiff and a white German Shepard, but now we have had the American bulldogs we dont want another breed! The Sire of our 2 youngest pups is Sargent Slaughter of Boyds ( dont know if you have heard him? ) I have my own American Bulldog group ( on Yahoo ) so if you have a Yahoo ID send it to me and i will send you an invite for my group. Its great to hear from you all, its nice of you to answer my post, thank you!! Ozzy xxx IP: Logged |

hey Ozzy, Wow, your located in the heart of it all! I'd love to visit Staffordshire sometime, and Westminister too! Yup, the REAL "Westminister"! I'm sure it's very much different now, but just to be there would be an awesome feeling... I'm not sure if i've ever seen pictures of Sargent Slaughter, but it does ring a bell... IP: Logged |

Okay, continuing... I actually met Mr. Boyd himslef at a ABA dog show. I have "our meeting" on video tape too! He was holding "Jordan", it's a Bully that the Boyd's prize a lot, i'd say. BTW, this was my 1st ABA show, and "dog show" ever! I wasn't competing in anything, but i would've liked too, and my pup is registered under NKC, not ABA, and i got there too late and missed the puppy trails. A double wammy!! IP: Logged |

Hopefully this will be my last post...?
So later on that day i was just walking around video taping away all kinds of Bullies, and i was particularly getting footage of the Bully-Breed Adult Winners of Confirmation. And of coarse, Jordan get's the Blue ribbon right? So since i just had spoke to this guy earlier in the day, i felt comfortable going up to him and speaking to him, while my video was running ! I actually got the victim (the guy w/ the Siberian Husky) on video too, and talked to him for a minute, him and his dad were nice peops, i'd could hardly believe that it was their fault. I think Jordan just broke out of his cage! Jordan actually bit the Husky, but luckily, Jordan did'nt break skin somehow. I remember the Dad with the Husky saying Jordan wasn't able to get a good grip, possibly because of the thick coat of their Husky. Everyone broke it up really quickly too. That was also funny that that happened, because when i first got to the show, i met an old co-worker there too, and he told "watch, sometime durring the day, a dog's gonna break loose out of it's crate". I was like wha!? People that bring their dogs were suppose to bring a crate for every dog they bring. I did'nt have a crate at the time, and was just wandering around free/openly w/ my pup. I figured a lot of people would do this too, and i was right. I also checked in w/ the club, and they said it would be at my own risk, and recommended that i bring one. Mostly, the people that where competing had their dogs in crates for most of the day. Well, that's my run-in w/ Boyd. IP: Logged |

Wow! You had a really busy and exciting 1st Bulldog show didnt you?! Unfortunately, the 1st Bulldog show we went to was horrible. We didnt know that they werent a nice crowd of people, they wouldnt talk to you if they didnt know you, if you asked them anything they ignored you, and they didnt like the fact that i was walking Oz around because i was female! The only woman handling dogs were only holding pups. It put me off and i said to Ray (my partner) that i was never going to another show ever again! He said that we would try and find a different show to go to, but at the time i was determined that i wasent going to another show. I felt really embarred being there, and couldnt wait to leave! But not long after i met our friends who are bulldog breeders (they also make and sell collars, leads, harnesses etc for American bulldogs and Bullbreeds. We told them about what happened at the show we went to, and they told us that they werent suprised and told us about the people that run those sort of shows. We now go to shows with our friends, much better crowd of people. Ihave 3 dogs to show this year, so i am keeping my fingers crossed that they do ok. I think you should definately show your AB! I hope you do ok! If you go to my profile it should give you my email address, email me and we can talk some more and i can send you the invite for my group if you want? Its great talking to you! I hope that we can talk some more? Ozzy xx IP: Logged |

Hi I'm from England and I thought you ment the English Bulldog, height 12-14in, weight 50-55lbs. this is the oldest British indigenous breed, the bulldog club of England was formed in 1864. american bulldog is totally different to this breed of bulldog. Ky and Rio IP: Logged |

the closest thing that you will get to the original bulldog is the American Bulldog. Yes the original bulldogs are from England and they were taken to America with the settlers, and at one point were thought to have died out. Then a small number was found in a small village. The bulldog in britain was downsized, they are much smaller than they were originally. The American bulldog is what the original bulldog looked like, not the British bulldog of today IP: Logged |

OZZY: I know what you mean. What i noticed when i went to that show, was that the Bulldoggers that have been doing it for a while were the ones that were "kinda" open to talking and sharing. While the others gave me that same outcast kinda feeling. I was just like, the hell w/ all these fools, i'm gonna have a good time, this is my 1st Bulldog show (& 1st dog show ever), and I AM NOT gonna let these fools spoil a good day for me & my pup. Ky & Rio: My fault, i had a feeling that i left something out that would make you think that i was talking about the English Bulldog of today. Some believe that the American Pit Bull Dog (American Bulldog of today), is made up of American Pitbull Terrier, the "original" Bulldog, & the English Bulldog of today. I believe both types are exisiting today. IP: Logged |

the closest looking dog to the original bulldog is todays American bulldog. Some of the original bulldogs were taken to America by settlers, and the bulldogs still in the UK were downsized alot! So the British bulldog has been altered from how it used to be, but the original bulldogs took to the USA have stayed the same which are todays American Bulldog. In the USA they are called Southern White or Georgia White Bulldogs, its the british that labelled them "American bulldogs". I hope that makes sense guys, We were going to have a British bulldog after the English Mastiff died, at this point we knew nothing about the American Bulldog, didnt know what it was. It was only because i saw " Bulldogs for sale " and thought they were british bulldogs, then when i phoned up the lady told me " no, they are American bulldogs ", and because i had never seen one she said i could go round and have a look. As soon as i laid eyes on them i fell in love! That was the end of Novenber 2002, now i have 4 and a Rottie X. My partner wants another AB out of our friends litter due March. Oz is 15 months old Phoenix the Rottie X is 2 years old I wouldnt have a different breed now! We have had Rotties, an English Mastiff and a White German Shepard. But now i have found my breed, and nothing else compairs. They are a fantastic breed and as i say i wouldnt have a different breed now Hope you are all well! - Ozzy xxx IP: Logged |
